Who scored the best goal of the 2004 MLS season? We want you -- the fans -- to decide. Select one goal from the following 41 nominees. Then come back next week to see if the goal you voted for made it to the next round. The Sierra Mist Goal of the Year will be announced during the MLS Cup on Nov. 14.
I picked the Sept. 19th Esky goal - the one that broke our corner kick 'curse'. Beautiful first touch and an abosolute rocket from outside the box.
Freddy Adu's Golazo against LA was a close second in my mind, and I was surprised Esky's laser shot against Cowlumbus wasnt even nominated.
Yes, Im a shameless homer and Id like to see one of our boys win it (not to mention I bet everyone else will be a homer when voting too, so why not us?).
Regardless, Im interested in what other DC fans consider the GOTY.

I couldn't decide so I voted for both Esky's 9/18 and Freddy strolling through 4 yellow traffic cones.

I picked the June 19 Esky strike against Columbus. Helluva shot. Unioted had, what, 6 or 7 goals of the week? Awesome stuff. There were so many good ones that I had forgotten about, though. Andy Williams, Jack Jewsbury, Ronnie O'Brien, Steve Ralston, Dwayne DeRosario. Man there are some good shots in there.
Oh, can't forget about Edson Buddle's free kick from a couple of weeks ago.

I had to vote for Alecko's July 3rd goal against the Metros. But man, that corner kick goal against the Fire was amazing too.

i voted for esky's first goal of the year cuz it was a nice goal and the significance of his celebration.
If jaime's "Johnny Walker, you just got burned" was an option, i would have chosen that
side note, is it just me, or is the quality of the videos lower than before?

The best part about Freddy's goal (besides him schooling 4 slow defenders) was how the ball bounced off the back post of the goal, came out and hit Hartman's head, then went back in the goal :D
Even though the goal itself wasn't all that, the announcing is spectacular on Jaime's 5/15 goal. That dude gets so excited.

My favorite goal of the year didn't even make the weekly honors. My favorite is Jaime Moreno taking the ball of that metro bitch walker's foot and putting it in the goal. Jaime just made Walker look stupid and the best part it - that was just one of 6 that DC United rammed up the metro's arses.

In the "stranger things have happened" category, what if Cerritos won?
BTW, major ******** up on the part of MLS for not having Jaime's goal against JW. That is the goal of the year - with the soundbite of the year to match:
"YOU JUST GOT BURNED, JOHNNY WALKER!"
Now if I can only figure out how to make that my cellphone ringtone...

Freddy’s. I’ve never seen anyone light up a crowd like that before. Everyone went nuts! Even the Galaxy shirt in front of me tossed his beer in the air.

United Goal of the Year - Alecko against Chicago Fire
MLS Goal of the Year - Edson Buddle free kick against Chicago - it shouldn't be any contest, that was one of the best goals in recent years, let alone this year..
