Essien has stated that he won't play any more first team matches for Lyon.

I think he's bluffing. If they hold on to him, as I think they should, there's no way he'll rot on the bench. No big club will buy him over the winter or next summer if he pulls this stunt.

I think Chelsea would still buy him, especially if it's at a cut-rate price.

Daniel Ljuboja could sign with the OM and if he does then Peguy Lyundula could be shown the door. If that happens if I were OL I would sign him back. He's be a good guy to have on the bench.

He's be a good guy to have on the bench.this is only my opinion, but when he left i was upset about the oily, chelskilike way OM carried out the affair, but not at all sad to see peguy leave.

first, i'd seen most of his goals, and not one of them impressed me; a lot of them seemed like blind luck. second, he needs the ball at his feet in the box, that's his only register. it just doesn't fit OL's style, and in europe you have to be a lot bigger than luyindula to stay on your feet waiting for that pass... no, i like nilmar a LOT better!

Well then he better get used to not getting paid! We'll see how long that lasts....

i doubt owen will come to OL because he wants a starting spot and he will most likely not get it in competition with govou and carew

you really dont think Owen would get a starting spot? Wiltord only scored 3 goals last season and Im sure Owen would score 3 or 4 times that many. Just start him instead of Wiltord and bring Wiltord on late in the game.

I think Owen would be a powerful purchase. Juninho was the top scorer last season. 2 first class strikers in Carew and Owen would be very smart I think.

even if he is bluffing, i think houllier should keep him in reserves or the youth team :D anyways, teach the brat a lesson. Besides, it'll be better for the competition that essien stays out....lol

Juninho is on the roster for todays game versus Strasbourg. That is good news. For anyone who's at the game please tell us the crowd reaction to Essien. I wonder if their will be a lot of negative signs made in the crowd.

very true but bringing in owen who has not played in the french league may put team chemistry at risk and with the whole essien situation that is the last thing lyon needs is that plus why mess with success i mean lyon is undefeated this year

Diarra suffered a knee injury against Strasbourg and, if tests on Monday show it to be serious, Lyon are ready to block Essien's exit.

I wonder if their will be a lot of negative signs made in the crowd.there was a hellacious booing of something just as we got to our seats, but since essien wasn't on the match card, his name wasn't announced at any time. but a fan in our section with an essien shirt on got enough ribbing to turn it inside out...

update: i have learned that this uproar was caused be the introduction of strasbourg's sidi keita, who took cacapa out last year with a tackle that was vicious and intentionally so. he got the same treatment every time he touched the ball.

Juninho is on the roster for todays game versus Strasbourg. That is good news.yes, good news... in yesterday's daily essien article, l'équipe made mention of juninho wanting to leave, but as far as i can figure out that's at the end of the season if no extension is signed this month.

he got a huge ovation when he came to warm up, another when he was called back to the bench, a third when he entered the game... and he proceeded to fluidify the offense immediately. he played a great 30 minutes.

other notes:

carew was dynamite, he almost put in a second one much like his first, but the keeper took him down. the only weird thing; why did he spend so much time on the flanks?

cris was good, did a little filling in a bit higher to help diarra and pedretti, cacapa OK in spite of a couple of dodgy clearings, RVR was as excellent on the right as berthod was horrible on the left. i hope we see monsoreau in the spot against marseilles.

malouda and govou both OK, govou blew a shot after soliciting a fine opening from juninho; wiltord worked a lot but tripped on the ball a couple of times.

all in all a disappointing match, but still 3 points. they'll have to play better next week, but i think they will.

Now that Essien is staying I wonder if he will ever be happy this year. He is just a kid so I'm sure he'll get over it soon and try to help Lyon reach the Champions League final and win the league title. Aulas is desperate to reach the Champions League final and without Essien he knows it will be difficult. There's not enough time to find a suitable replacement for him if he was sold. Essien's teammates need to talk to him and get him on the right track and focused on the goals set this season.

i hope you're right about essien getting over it. i think he'll get a new contract with an extension and/or whatever clauses it takes to make him a happy camper at least for this year. with this year's CL final in paris, the future is now.

suitable replacement... i can't think of any that are available. pedretti may someday get the job done, but certainly doesn't cut the mustard yet. and there is nobody on the transfer market any better at any price that i can see.

good news hopefully about diarra: infiltration and 48 hours rest is the diagnosis.

Juninho, Essien, Diarra, Malouda, Govou, Pedretti that is one of the strongest midfields in Europe right there. Now all they need is an Owen or Baros and then they will be one of the favorites to make the CL final. They dont need Essien to win Ligue 1 however since the league is not that strong.
