L'Equipe:

Not going to look for this now, but wasn't he
(supposed to be) saying not too long ago
that he always wanted to play for Manchester
United?
Of course, this is an interview with L'Equipe,
so it is legitimate. I don't remember where the
"Man U" quote was coming from.
Also, in this article:"«Je veux partir. J'ai longuement réfléchi pendant les vacances. Pour moi, Lyon c'est fini"
http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/20050712_093132Dev.html
Ok, c'est fini, c'est fini. Let Aulas get a bundle
for him, no big deal, although he is playing
hardball and saying Essien isn't going
anywhere:

at this point i would think that lyon should look to lock up the rest of the team and maybe look into getting a player like denilson to help ease the damage untill the next seasons transfer window opens up and more high profile players are available

Essien made the trip to Korea for the Peace Cup.
thats strange because essien said he would not go maybe this is another gerrard-liverpool type move a.k.a a publicity stunt to try and earn a better contract

Olympique Lyonnais got their Peace Cup campaign rolling with a 1-1 draw with last years Copa Libretadores champions Once Caldas of Colombia.

Soto opened the scoring for Once Caldas in the 12th minute, and Mahamadou Diarra equalized in the 32nd minute off of a corner kick. Michael Essien might have been proving to J-M Aulas that he doesnt want to play for the French Giants any more after he got sent of in the 74th minute ;) .

In other Peace Cup action PSV beat local side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma 2-1

i think lyon should just sell essien before he damages the teams chances at a 5th straight league 1 title because even though he is currently one of the best players in the world he is becoming detrimental to not only the teams onfield play but their morale i say sell him to the highest bidder keep this money for next year and hope that someone else can come through and help fill the void

Pedretti can already fill that "void". I agree, get rid of him. 25 million pounds. I think Arsenal is looking for a holding midfielder now as well. :D

thats true so its all the more reason to sell him i mean pedretti is a very good player so why not its basically 25 million which can be used to make sure the rest of the team stays with OL

Chelsea Determined To Sign Essien
7/19/2005 8:36:00 AM
Chelsea intend to maintain their pursuit of Lyon midfielder Michael Essien despite being told by the French champions that they must pay a British record transfer fee of £32 million to land him.
"Michael Essien is well and truly still an important acquisition for us. We’ve made two offers and had meetings with Lyon," said Chelsea’s chief executive Peter Kenyon.

"We’ve still got quite a long way to go but I’m hopeful it will come off."

Lyon insist that Chelsea must match the fee they were prepared to pay for Steven Gerrard if they want the Ghanaian international.

"If he must go, we want what you’d get for the best in his role. Chelsea were ready to pay Gerrard’s asking price," Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told l’Equipe.

Chelsea bid £32 million for Liverpool midfielder Gerrard, who decided to sign a new deal with the Reds.

Aulas has said he would be willing to keep Essien for another year even if meant losing money on any future transfer.

He has now given Chelsea a deadline of 25 July to conclude any potential deal.

Meanwhile Essien, whose contract with Lyon ends in 2008, has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea.

Essien goes to Chelsea, Govou goes to Liverpool, and Diarra goes to Arsenal. If that all happens then this team is seriously f****d. They dont wanna sell these guys but these damn EPL teams show interest in them and these ungratefull players wanna jump ship.
