they could always recruit Bernard Hinault as a fitness coach.

obviously a coach doesn't have to go out and play with the team. but PLG used to go out and kick ass in "bull in the ring", and other drills, and he was about the best at soccertennis, everyone always wanted to team with him.

that's gotta have a big positive effect on your relationship with your players...

It such a drastic change for team with Houllier not doing that stuff that I have no idea how it will effect their performance on the field.

When they signed Carew Houllier said he tried to sign him when he was at Liverpool but was unsuccessfull. Isnt that one of the criticisms of him when he was at Liverpool was that he brought in and signed the wrong players ? Hmmmmm.

If Lyon is ever going to get a subforum, this bitch can't drop to the 2nd page. Shame on us, no excuse that it is off-season. Anyone spy the new kit yet?

Lyon drew with Dijon in their first friendly 1-1 in Albertville, Goal by Sylvain Wiltord.

Lyon's next friendly is the 10th against Slavia Prague in Colmar (where is that?)

Then Lyon travel to Korea for the Peace Cup, first match on the 15th against Once Caldas of Colombia.

I havent been posting here because I'm still upset about the John Carew signing. I cant believe Houlllier is so enamored with this guy. Houllier made some bad singings at Liverpool so this could be another one. I cant believe he thinks this guy is the savior when I dont think he's scored more than 13 goals a season ever. He looks like a big tall stiff to me. Well at least he wanted to come there I guess.

Yeah, the ASNL thread has been more active than this one. :D Well maybe not, unless you count me talking to myself as being active.

Is it possible that he was secured to have a specific role on the team...not because he's an all-around brilliant player? what are his best qualities?

I disagree with Sportboy on this one. He's a nice player. Excellent in the arial game, he can really score with his head. He also has very good field vision, and runs into open spaces well. 6'5" he's not afraid to run down the wings and cross the ball either. This guy is a great physical talent, and I think he will be a huge asset this year.

I think that even if he doesnt score a million goals, his size and arial ability could add a new dimension to the lineup. An arial threat is key for corners and set pieces and if he can run and cross the ball as well that seems pretty potent. He may not be the next huge star forward but if he can contribute to the whole, thats more important in my mind.

Here's something that some guy wrote on Soccerpulse.com about JC. I thought it was pretty interesting.

houllier has promised not to change the team's style. but i've watched OL for 12 years now, and the champagne football tigana brought in has changed a lot, or rather, been broadened. on of OL's strong points has been their ability to play lots of styles... brazilian passing, counterattack, long flank passes, ball control, position... technical, athletic or physical. but this last is where they're weak up front. against PSV, they got beat up bad up front. govou, juninho and malouda could barely keep off the turf, and NO help from nielsen who decided that football and boxing are the same thing.

I like the fact that OL is trying to find the missing pieces of the puzzle to compete in the Champions League. OL needs to be more physical and that where Carew comes in. Nice.

Eh, they aren't bad. I don't care much for the Renault Trucks Sponsor. I would prefer all of them to have the LG. Not that it matters that much, whatever.

L'Equipe:
