The thread is for proposal and discussion of any changes to teh hattrick BS.com cup.

I think things worked well last year; see no need for changes. Any other perspectives?

I think we got pretty much everything hashed out last year, I think the only thing we needed to discuss was if we wanted to make the final 1 leg or keep it at 2

I lost the two leg final. Hence I vote for the 1 leg final.

I dont want to exclude anybody, but my vote is for active teams only....I say limit it to frequent posters here who know the BS Cup rules. Also, try to find a even number of teams to make the groups work out.

Last season I was in a group that was short one team, then one of the three was inactive as far as accepting friendlies/using correct lineups.

Not sure if it got added to the "official" rules or not, but last season we had to set a cut-off time for accepting the match. (Because of the super group that phillips10 and I were in...)

It was added by dictator fiat. I think it would be a good thing to have permanently in the rules.

The problem with 2 leg vs. 1 leg final, is that with 2 leg, you actually have things a little more fair, because both teams get the boost from the "home field". That's why the two leg system works. It would just be hard to get a 1 leg final to be totally fair unless the teams were from the same region, therefore creating a derby. The only way that a true 1 leg final would work, is if there were some way to schedule a game at a neutral site, which will most likely never be added to hattrick.

A round robin single table based on points(3W-1D-0L) with alternating home/away fixtures for active teams only.

looks like over 20 teams have signed up already...we may end up over 30...

how about a 32-team tourney...8 groups of 4, only the winners of each group advance to the knockout stage?

If we get that many teams, taht would be great.

Maybe do it UEFA Cup style(pre 2004/05), say we have 24 or 32 teams, do a home and away legs. Might be a bit easier on the organizers an no need to worry about the groups.

The only problem with that is that it doesn't guarrantee (sp?) many games for each team in the cup. One of the reasons for signing up for the cup is to avoid the bother of scheduling friendlies.

I agree with this point, while the home/away idea is good, it does limit the number of friendlies that the cup gives you. And like was said, this cup is all about getting friendlies. This is seen in the fact that the winner of the cup doesn't get an actual reward for winning, it's all about getting friendlies and having fun doing it.
