I thought FSW has the rights again this year.
How come there are no games on today????

FSW has the rights to the final. For other games, they'd have to negotiate with the individual clubs or their marketing agencies.

Now why they haven't done that, I don't know.

Lets ask Jeremy on his official thread.

Gol TV has UEFA Cup games today. They showed Zenit-AEK Athens at noon, and will show Schalke-Basel at 2:30 (eastern).

Other than the final, FSI usually only acquires matchups that SportFive does not distribute. Setanta and Gol TV do primary business with SportFive (Old Firm, Serie A and Newcastle United), while FSI mostly deals with Media Pro (virtually all Spanish teams). Gol TV also deals with Media Pro for La Liga rights, so they undoubtedly acquired most of the early stage Spanish games.

FSI really only needs 1-2 matches per round starting after the Winter break. The group stage matches don't fit FSI's schedule any better than the Champions League would and are basically money throw-aways since Celtic and Rangers will air through Setanta and it's only after the winter that some big-name teams will fall into the UEFA Cup.

DAGSports has it right - we have the final and matches here and there after the winter break. And really, the competition is too long as it is so we're comfy just showing hilites from what we get on the feeds. IMO we should only start covering it after the winter break anyways.

We'll have hilites and scores on tonight's edition of the show - along with two champions league wrap-ups from Tuesday and Wednesday.

See ya at 10pm EST

Too bad. There are some compelling matchups in the Group Stage. Middlesbrough-Lazio comes to mind.

FSW would rather show Crystal Palace vs Portsmouth or Fulham vs Norwich rather than a UEFA Cup match. Sad but true.

'Would rather show' and 'could not afford the rights to' are two distinctly different things.

J1 I've been told that you cannot show highlights of SportFive matches. Is this correct?

This is a SportFive match and thus can be shown by GolTV. Please request that they show this match by e-mailling them at info@goltv.tv

Man, Setanta would probably pay more for that match than virtually any other game out there! ;)
