I hope all you gringos caught the Latin Grammy Awards with Alejandro Sanz, Vicente Fernandez, Alejandro Fernandez, Celia Cruz,

and Shakira, of whom Gabriel Garcia Marquez said "Nobody, of any age, sings and moves as she."

I thought the "Grammys" were all won by Latin artists anyway?

Did Vicente Fernandez walk away with a few?

What constitutes a 'Latin' artist?

I was asking myself this question after seeing that Nelly Furtado performed at the ceremony. I mean, she was born and raised in Canada and her family background is from Europe (Portugal).

I was under the impression that the focus was on Latin American artists. Or were there also European artists present?

Well Enrique Iglesias is half-white/half-Asian (Spanish and Philipino) and he performs on these things, so why not Nelly Furtado who is 100% Latin-European? Since we have Portugese, Spanish, and Latin-Americans represented, why no Italians or Frogs?

I think he walked away with a lifetime achievement award or something.Either way it was long overdue.

How big a star would Vincente Fernandez have been if he was born as an American? At age what 60 something he still has a great voice. Sinatra had lost it by his by his late 50's.

When he dropped his mic and belted out to the cheap seats sans amplification, I got chills big time .

When was the last time you saw anybody do that at an award show?

Quien es mas macho?

(btw: who was the blonde who presented him with the best mariachi album award? ay dios mio.)

As far as singing goes, Shakira is a load of crap. You'd probably get a better noise out of a cat by setting fire to it.

Yeah, but at least she writes her own material, I may not like her music, but I sure respect it.

Good show. Alejandro Sanz is a very good artist. I was introduced to him while in Spain a few years back. I also enjoyed Thalia. She looked pretty nice, but not as hot as usual.

I haven't listened to much of Laundry Service but I do enjoy Donde Estan Los Ladrones and Unplugged.
