I told you guys
1) buy a ps2
2) find someone who sells the backup copy of Winning Eleven or PES ( $5)
3) get a messiah chip for your ps2 ($50)
4) get a PAL converer if needed ($20)
then it can play. Even better is that some of the backup hacks can switch the PAL to NTSC with software so you don\t even need the converter.
Actually my version of Pro Evolution Soccer didn't even need the mod chip, it played just fine on a regualr PS2. I paid like $3 for it.
but anyway I'd wait until next month when PES 2 comes out, WE6 is a little tricky if you don't know Japanese (Premium Hamatachi proceed to buy Winning eleven 6 at your lesiure).

Download the English patch for WE6 here: http://winning11.da.ru/
It is under download in the WE6 section. The patch fix all the clubs with proper names and also the players' name.If you are going to convert PES2 from PAL to NTSC, you are going to lose about an inch and a half off the bottom of the screen. I rather wait till WE6FE in December.

Why will the PAL version lose an Inch and a Half in the conversion?
The PAL version only has a 5mm border at the top and at the bottom.
The new WE6FE will be the same as PES2 I take it.

neither PES or WE6 loses an inch on my television. But again, software hacks worked on it before it got to me.
all I did for my backup of PES is put it in and play....no mod chip, no pal converter.

i'm probably missing something here, but how does downloading a file from the internet help u with a PS or PS2 game? [like how would u put that file from the internet onto your PS or PS2 disc?] i understand doing it with FIFA on computers because its already on the same platform, but i dont understand this.

The reason you will lose about an inch of and a half on the conversion because the way PAL and NTSC works. The 50hz and 60hz options on PAL and NTSC TVs has something to do with the loss of the bottom of the screen. PAL TV are run at 50 Hz while NTSC at 60 Hz. It is too long of a story too explain all of this. Here is an excellent link to learn the differences between PAL and NTSC systems: http://www.palconsolecampaign.com/palntsc.html
WE6FE will not be the same as PES2. Konami always improved upon the previous series. I have WE6 J-league right now, and I can tell you that it is much better than WE6 in terms of gameplay. Playing with J-leaguers with low stats makes the game more challenging but you are rewarded with about 12 top Europeans side to play with as secret teams. I have no problem playing Winning Eleven series in the States because it is in NTSC. With PES or any PAL system footie games, I lose the above mentioned bottom of the screen.

You make an image of the PS or PS2 game in .bin format with CDRWin. Then you download the patch from the above site and install it on the image. There are tools on that site on how to do it. Then you burn the patched image on a CDR and then you can play the backup with a modified PS2 system or do the knife trick swap. Well you're lucky you skipped over FIFA 2000 and FIFA 2001. They were crap. I enjoyed FIFA 2002 as well, but was even more impressed with their 2002 World Cup version. FIFA 2003 will blow both of them away.

The Japanese version will be basically the same as PES2 as no Japanese version is like PES2 yet.
Europe only gets it once a year, so every possible upgrade will be put into PES2.
I know all about PAL and NTSC, I play Dead or Alive 2 at 60hz on my PAL TV. Native PAL games only have a tiny 5mm border, not an Inch and a Half. You obviously have not played any PAL games made since last year.

Hmmm. I have a NTSC TV not a PAL TV. If I convert PAL games which are in 50 Hz to NTSC 60 hz, then I lose the screen as I have mentioned above. To convert NTSC to PAL, it is not a problem as to convert PAL to NTSC. Also depends on your TV also as this article stated:
PAL-60, also known as pseudo-PAL, (PAL with 525 scan lines at 60Hz) allows for PAL conversions to be identical to NTSC originals. This is a huge improvement over past experiences, but does not exploit the higher resolution of PAL. In addition, not all PAL TVs can accept a PAL-60 signal, and so there must always be a 50Hz version. With game logic running at different speeds on each version, the 60Hz and 50Hz versions may not be compatible.

FIFA 2002 on ps2 is by far the best soccer game ever. It is so realistic. From the passing technique to the shooting to just how much fun it is to play with others. The world cup addition of 2002 and fifa 99 on 64 are a close second. I just hope 2003 is very similair to 2002. They just need to make the players stop quicker and also make it not possible to score from mid field. Beside this its off tha hook...

Very funny post. :D
I almost believed you for a minute.
Pro Evolution and Winning Eleven are so superior it's untrue.
Has anyone here found a review that claims Fifa is the best football game? I haven't found one yet.

Listen, you are 100% correct, no doubt about it. I found Konami's soccer to be the best the first time I ever played it. Since then I know not to buy FIFA when a far superior Konami title is available. Unfortunately, here in the US they are torturing fans by not selling Pro Evolution/Winning Eleven and therefore you get the ludicrous statements that FIFA is the best. You know the deal I'm sure it's even been brought up in this thread.

Some of the reviews (Gamespot for one) I read about FIFA 2003 for XBox seem to indicate that EA Sports is adapting some new features. It's supposedly a whole new game engine too. (not FIFA World Cup 2002 Part Deux)

Sensible World Of Soccer can be downloaded here (http://www.classic-trash.com/gameinfo.php?id=186)
I always preffered Kick Off 2 (http://www.classic-trash.com/gameinfo.php?id=109), though. I still have my old Amiga and play it from time to time.

FIFA 2002 for PS2 is much, much better when you bump the difficulty level up to World Class. The action is much more like a real soccer game (players pass along the back with the lead, strategy changes, etc.) My biggest complaint it that I never feel 100% in control like I did back with ISS '98 (the ISS Series is the whole reason I bought an N64.)
Seriously, I'm waiting for the day when someone combines FIFA options with Championship Manager strategy with ISS gameplay and NCAA Football training/role play options. This game would not be stopped. I had a feeling Konami was getting there (there was talk of a game intended for N64 where you could train a player to join a team), but I guess soccer video game utopia will have to wait.

I bought one of these backup versions of winning eleven 6 on my travels abroad. i thought that maybe since i lack the chip trying to play the game would damage the system and/or disk... Is there any chance of this happening?

Software can never damage hardware, that's a golden rule of computers.
It it could, viruses would be able to destroy your PC. They cannot.
Usually it just won't work if you don't have a mod chip.
