yeap
Vitor and pandiani(the depor strikers)are a very good pair indeed.Theres also the brazilian veterian Silva, very good player aswell. But i am confident that liverpool can get 3 points in this match.Oviously Benitez only wanted to rest Alonso ,but what was he thinking!!??lets just hope that we can play the whole match with the determination that we shoued in the second half against fulham.

GO REDS!!!

ps-i like the starting lineup made by liverbird, but would put Finnan in the bench instead of Potter

Excited, yes. However the motivation was the only two days left to discuss it.

I like LB's lineup, but I might vote to start Biscan instead of Hamann. I've had a ten minute arguement with myself, and I can't make up my mind yet. I have two thoughts in favor of Biscan: 1) re-inforce the growing confidence IB might have after the last game (because, let's face it, he's our 3rd choice central midfielder at the moment and he's going to get a lot more minutes before Stevie gets back), and 2) presuming we have a lead, we can then yank Biscan for Hamann at the 60' mark or so, and effectively ice the game.

Maybe I'm full of crap, though. I'll let you know when I stop arguing with myself.

If Harry stinks up the joint, and we're up 1-0 or so in the 55', I also would like to see Traore come on for him, and push Riise up to the left wing rather than the "quick fix" of Warnock. (I also think there's a reasonable chance that Warnock starts for Harry. We have no evidence that he's fully fit yet.)

I think Warnock should start right off the bat. Kewell needs time to recuperate because his ankle has been bad since last season.

Crappage. Got a last minute summons to Brussels. Am going to miss the game (and my stub for the next round ...) and now need somewhere in this place that shows the SKY CL feed in order to watch it at all.

Bloody business bloody trips ...

Exactly, I have to be out of town as well and will depend on internet reports after the fact! Isn't it inconvient earning aliving? it truly gets in the way of my soccer.

I hope not....but somehow I get the feeling...Liverpool are going to get their first real taste of champions league this year. Its gonna be a solid test - it will tell people what to expect of Liverpool for the rest of the season.
We are talking about the club that thrashed Milan 4-0 last year!
What is Liverpool's defence compared to maldini, nesta...
I would also never fancy an English club against a Spanish club. Their attack is so overwhelming. The only way to beat spanish clubs is attack...defending against them is suicidal. But do liverpool have the guts to go all out and attack ? Gerrard would have been crucial...but lets wait and watch..

Apart from comfortably beating last season's finalists, you mean? Or playing (badly) in Athens and getting done over?

We are talking about the club that thrashed Milan 4-0 last year!
Yes, that's true. But we're also talking about a team that drew 0-0 with Shelbourne and lost 2-0 to Monaco this year.

They are a decent side and it will take a good performace to beat them. But I think it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will get "thrashed". In fact, I think we can more or less discount the possibility from the outset.

The only way to beat spanish clubs is attack...defending against them is suicidal.
English club sides have a recent record including THREE 0-0 draws against Spanish opposition.

Welcome to the boards and all that, but let's wait and see what happens against a Deportivo side that has done little to impress this season when we play them at home, where our record of performances and results is impressive this time out.

Barring catastrophe, I should be able to do comms. Had to miss out on the Fulham game due to a friend's wedding, but I'll be here tomorrow.

yeah, i agree that Depor. is a good side, but we CAN beat them. I mean, there attack is great, specially if the big guns fire, but they are a beatable side.the reds just need to show the same atitude and comitment that they showed in the second half of the fulham game!they have a defence thats gettin very old since they havent bought many new players,so lets hope that with cisses pace he can outpace ther defence and score some goals!
lets not forget that depor havent played good football this season.they did play very well last season, but there s been alot of problems between there players and the manager,so lets hop0e those problem favour US!!!!

LONG LIVE THE REDS

think we can win this 2-0

I'd try to sympathize Matt, but I've been without even a computer to keep up with things. I've seen a grand total of 1 match so far, haven't been able to write one single editorial for my mate's Irish site, and I don't really have a clue how the Spaniards are doing. That, and I'm still looking for work...

I think that liverpool will play like this

-------------kirkland
--josemi--cara--hyypia--risse
--finnan--alonso--DiDi--Garcia
--------baros----cisse
subs
Kewell
Biscan
Traore
Dudek
SMP

I htink benitez will play with this formation, specialy with finnan and josemi in the right, since both of them have to stop Luque, there most dangerous man(hes quick and has good skill)

I think its a pretty good idea, but its more likely that Biscan starts on Saturday against Charlton. Rafa will probably go with the more expierenced Hamann for the Champions League. There is also a good chance that Riise starts on the bench with Traore getting another run at left back. He has done very well. Traore will probably start against Charlton as well with Josemi suspended.

And there is catastrophe. Have a conference call at 2:00 that's supposed to run about an hour. I've missed the last two or three, so I kind of have to be in on this one.
