This is in another thread, and mods, if you want to delete it, feel free, but I went and opened my big mouth again defending refs!

Now why would you go and do a silly thing like that? That just upsets the natural balance of things. It's just not right....

I dunno, I often wonder if I could do better. I'm often frustrated with CONCACAF refs. I usually only get to see our NATS games so admittedly, I'm biased. Half the time, the officiating's pretty good. The rest of the time I'm shocked.

Why in the US-Panama game for instance, was it necessary to add 3 whole minutes of injury time to a 6-0 game? Trying to get a bunch of guys injured? Say a minute and be done with it. As it was, the US wisely realized the smart thing to do was to just kick it around and play keep away.

The blown offside call against Johnson (I think)? Was the AR outta position?
Berhalter getting intentionally whacked in the face? (believe me, I sympathize with the ref - way to easy to get shielded)

I can't defend them. I'm too busy complaining about them too.

The only thing I can say is that I know they are human. Everyone expects them to be perfect. I at least understand that, despite my frustration, and am much more likely to believe what they do or don't do is not with ill intent.

I pretty much just go with the flow and assume they are all doing the best jobs they can and have reached the FIFA referee level for a reason. So they miss some calls or make bad ones, so does everyone else. Players make bad plays, coaches make bad decisions, referees make bad calls...it is the nature of sport. And of course people complain about all 3 when they can. I have no use for people (like Rob Stone), who have probably never refereed a game in their life, complaining left and right about calls. I'll be the first one to say "that wasn't a good call", but I won't b*tch and moan about it until the cows come home and act like the referee gave a game away or anything like that. People need to get over themselves.
