... well sorta :)
I was listening this morning and Rome was interviewing this guy who had written a book documenting the athletic accomplishments of people that have been successful in other areas (film, politics, business...).

Rome asked him to talk about some of the examples and he mentioned Jon Stewart - who I'm sure you know played soccer at William and Mary- and that one of the best moments in Jon's life was when Bruce Arena told him that he remembered him from when Bruce coached at UVA. He was saying how he's(Jon) met all these other really important people doing his show but the fact that the national team coach remembered him really got him excited... kinda cool
heck... Rome didn't even have anything snide to add to the comment. He said that it was great.

I mean, if Arena said he remembered me from my playing days, my kids would be hearing about it daily till I died!

I would think Bruce would be pretty flattered by that comment as well-- from Jon Stewart I mean... not from you...wait... I mean... I'm sure you were a terrific player and all... and a great dad...I'm just sayin'... Jon Stewart saying that is pretty cool... not that you saying it ISN'T cool... Bruce may be flattered by your comment as well... I should go.

What years did Jon play at William and Mary? What position? And was he any good?

I don't know, but in his honor, the W&M soccer teams created the "Leibo" award and gives it to the player who contributes most to the team spirit.

He was born in 1962, so I imagine he was there in the early 80s.

He got there in the fall of 1980. My brother was there at the same time so, if Jon graduated on time, which I assume, he would have graduated in the spring of 84.

He graduate in 1984, and just for laughs here is the commencement address he was asked to give:

"That is great. I mean, how great was that? Dear Jim: That interview with Jon Stewart was great. Sincerely, Bruce Arena."

Jon Stewart did indeed play soccer at my alma mater, W+M. His name then wasn't Jon Stewart. That's where the "Leibo" award comes from.

That didn't suck too bad at all.

Not as funny as Conan O'Brian's speech at Harvard.

Aw - a happy moment!

I can't believe Jim Rome was involved in any way.

The soccer apocalypse is upon us.
