The Mexico-Ecuador match is less than two weeks away at Giants.

I'm going with a friend of mine. That's two.

Who else?

Not I.

Octavio Zambrano comped me 4 tickets, so I'm sitting with Villegas and the Klinger Brothers. Should be phat.

In all seriousness, I would not go to this game if you paid me, but it is an honest question to ask. I am, however, hoping for another bottle throwing incident by the Southern California...err..Mexican fans. Let the NJSEA work for their dinner for once.

Just speaking for myself, my disrespect for Mexican soccer fans has been well earned. Going anywhere near them for something that doesn't involve the USMNT is just not going to happen. I have been to Mexico and have nothing against them as a people, but the small segment of soccer fans are altogether worthless in my eyes. From bottle throwing, to bags of urine, batteries...just selfish, tasteless, small-minded behavior of truly classless fans. It may only be 5% of the people there for this game, but if I went it would only be to sing "2-nil in Jeonju" for 90 minutes.

Too bad... I'll probably go check it out anyway to see for myself though. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm Makes ya wonder how the usual soccer mom-esque MLS crowd is going to mesh with the Chivas Supporters next season.

I have no connection to Mexico or Ecuador except an extreme hatred when we play them. I'd only go to this game if I went with a group of 50 or so USA fans with huge USA flags, and chanted Estados Unidos for 90 minutes.

Why not go for the simple fact of enjoying some international football with fans that have passion in the stands and skilled players on the field. International football is usually always a great time at GS.

Ya, F the NJSEA and all of that but even if everyone from the ESC showed up it still wouldn't put a dent in their coffers so that's an ill exscuse.

From the old skool Marlboro Cups to the Peru-Ecuador match , there's always entertainment to be had.

If you had an Agentina- Colombia match here, I'd go. Or, consider going at least. Brazil, Holland, Italy, England, France any of those...cool, I could go to enjoy the soccer. Mexico alone as the draw is a put off. But that's just me.

It's been called the Gold Cup for the past few years. The US Open Cup has now been changed for the representation of the Womens Nat. team..but if that was what you were referring too then enjoy your version of Coors Cutter soccer.

The Gold Cup never replaced anything. Canada won the 2000 Gold Cup and we lost in pk's to Colombia. US won the 2000 US Cup. I was there.

Why would I want to go and support the USA's biggest competition, besides the fact they acted like classless b*tches in the last world cup?

I'd take those fans anytime over little boys and girls blowing their damn horns or running around the aisles paying attention to anything but the game. Ya the Mexican fans get out of hand at times but they get out of hand because of their passion for their country and their players...something I wished the ESC and the rest of our fans could come close too.

I've been the only white guy at GS for some internationals and have even been in a few tussles because of merely being "white." That still didn't and won't deture me from the great matches at GS.

It's funny how most of you guys piss in your pants over thoughts of playing at home with a huge passion filled crowd like those in Europe or in South America. Yet everytime one of those styled crowds comes into town everyone brings out their elitest attitudes or two dollar exscuses.

Fact of the matter is even some the worst int. friendlies out trump the experience of a Metros game. Our fans suck..plain and simple...they hardly ever turn up and when they do they sit on their hands and ask for you to sit down and watch your language. I could expect that at a women's match but certainly not a mens footballing match.

Don't go because you don't want to waste your money and instead save it for the Metros... that's cool...but the other exscuses and petty bitching is just weak.

I was talking about the Mexican players not their fans.

Why would I want to pad the pockets of the US's top competition. I am an American of so many generations that it would take too long to calculate. I hate the Mexican team, I don't want to support them.

I have been to many internationals, with teams from Europe, Central America and South America, but the only time I will go see Mexico is when they are playing the US national team.

No disputing that. The horns are annoying, but you can't pay too much attention to them. If, in 10 years, they are 18 year olds who support Metro, I'll take them being goofballs with horns at age 8. Where I sit, I stand and sing all game, and I don't have a problem with horns, because I'm singing loud enough that I don't hear them.

Having passionate support is great, and any fan club would strive to show the passion that you can see at many games in Mexico. But to call something like throwing bags of urine just "getting out of hand" is naive in the extreme. Notice the fact that in order to throw bags of urine, you have to bring bags to the game. What concession stand can you walk up to and get a ziploc? Plenty of fans all over the world get out of control and do or same something that isn't very classy, but Mexican fans have consistently lowered the bar.

That still didn't and won't deture me from the great matches at GS....

Really, Mr. Zoffinger? And how long have you worked for the NJSEA?

It's funny how most of you guys piss in your pants over thoughts of playing at home with a huge passion filled crowd like those in Europe or in South America. Yet everytime one of those styled crowds comes into town everyone brings out their elitest attitudes or two dollar exscuses.....

It's even funnier when people who don't know what they are talking about tell other people what they are prejudiced against.

Earlier this year there was a Metro- Colorado game that was a double header with a Peru- Argentina game. The Peruvians hung out in 101, and I and many other ESC guys hung out with them during the Peru game. I had a great time- and they were really good fans. I'm not peruvian so I don't have an interest in watching them, but if I had a chance to hang out with those guys again, I would take it. It was a great time. But those guys were nothing like the hard core Mexican fans that create problems wherever they go. Argentina, Brazil, sure thing. Mexico? It's a different story completely, and to act like it isn't is just fooling yourself.

The Peru game is only one example. I could go into another about the 10 guys hanging out in a Colombian bar in Queens for USA olympic quallies, but who cares? If you want to claim that we're all prejudiced, that we are elitist all have this massive complex, you need to check your facts.

And are you doing anything to change that?

excuses and petty bitching is just weak.

No arguement here.

Jamison -- Imagine your quotes here... I'll save everyone the time of scrolling down due to content.

Firstly...my thoughts and sometime halfass'd opinions are merely for the enjoyment of hearing someone else's opinion I normally wouldn't take the time to think of..not to be a jackoff antagonist. Basically I enjoy a good argument.

As to the tossing bags of piss, I could totally understand the hatred and disliking the experience of a south american goldenshower. The reality is though that happens seldomly and one could point the finger more directly to Honduran & Guat. fans at RFK. Most of the Mexican fans that show up to GS are hard working immigrants who enjoy seeing their national team. One my most favorite matches at GS was Ireland vs Mexico awhile back in the Gold Cup. I sat with my Orange on in a sea of Mexicans as we hammered them in the rain and we all had a blast. Very rarely has there ever been a huge bust up or over the top fans at an GS Int. friendly game. Although the Peru-Ecuador match two years ago was a war zone atmosphere but a classic none the less. Some may say who cares about these meaningless matches but they all hold their places with some sort of value on the line. Take aformentioned Peru-Ecu. match...Pizarro was tossed and missed the next match which was a qualifier that Peru lost and was dull without him.

As to being a Zoffinger supporter that's b.s. for two reasons. One I love the Metros and am very much informed as to why he sucks and why metro fans hate him. Me being a Metro fan , I hate him. However I don't hate him to the degree that most people on here do, or at least the ones that would put him in the last eight of the hate bracket. ( clearly that role and the road to the final spot should of been paved by Billy Walsh). Blame those people that signed the lease and those that got us into this position to be underlined by the NJSEA. The NJSEa are taking advantage of the stupid situation we've been put into by sloppy management on the part of the Metros pre AEG management and Pre Garber MLS management. Sure Zoff is a prick who's taking advantage of us and his buisness tactics are rubbish (just look at how he's handling the whole Xanadu project). If anyone was asked in 95' during the startup of the MLS where should we put a pro soccer team in the NY area the majority would go for GS. I would of choose GS myself because at the time it made sense. If we left now or even a few years back there simply isn't a place that could meet the requirements of holding a full season. Newark was tryed and that was interesting but it wouldn't work during a full minor league baseball summer schedule. Rutgers is nice but it's too far out and the small back streets make for crappy driving and the train service is too far off. Mitchell is nice but it's the same situation as Rutgers , except this time it's discriminating for the Jersey fans and not the NY fans. GS is simply the only logical choice. Thank Jesus for Harrison but for now GS is home and will be so untill MetroPark is built.
