I'm probably real late and behind on news with this but I heard yesterday on sports radio a Boston journalist say that the Red Sox organization was about to invest in soccer teams. Any info?

I am not quite sure I understand the crybabies statement. What makes you assume that all Red Sox fans are crybabies?

Will the 'curse of the bambino' then apply to the soccer team via proxy?

To fill in some blanks with the original post, this was said by Peter Gammons on yesterday's Mike & the Mad Dog Show (YES Network and WFAN sports radio in NYC). Gammons said that the Red Sox ownership was looking to increase their cash flows to match the Yankees by potentially investing in NASCAR and 2 soccer teams. As you'd expect of Mike & the Mad Dog, they stayed on the subject of baseball and did not follow up.

Well, if they are looking to increase cash flow, you can pretty much rule out MLS near term. This could be a situation where they are looking to invest in a large foreign club. Don't the Yankees have some sort of investment in ManU?
If they are looking longer term, then perhaps they could be looking into buying the Revs, building a SSS and then, in 3 to 5 years, they would probably start seeing some positive cash flow out of it.
Hunt has already hinted that he may be thinking about a SSS for KC. If that happens, then New England would be the last remaining NFL stadium holdout.

I think the term was "Marketing Partnership".

Sadly... they do.....
But it's just Pinstripes and Tyneside for me :)

I wouldnt neccesairly rule out MLS teams immediately. MLS teams in their own stadiums have been show to make money. NO reason for them not to be able to buy a franchise and stadium!! Its prefectly feasilble. Plus their upfront investment would be considerabely less.
Now if they want instant cashflow there is no garuntee that buying a foreign club would do that. Alot of foreign clubs lose a hell of alot more money than MLS teams do. There can also be alot of instability.
There are postives and negatives to both sides and hearing that Kraft was talking to Jerry you know that MLS has got to be an option.

That is an incredible leap of logic, assuming "Jerry" is John Henry.
Kraft and Henry have been talking since before Henry bought the Red Sox and they are each other guests at games often.
There is no way that the soccer investment has anything to do with the Revs, its almost laughable to think so.
MLS teams in their own stadiums have been show to make money.
The sample size is to small to ever make this conclusion.
The Crew have yet to hit cash flow positive on any consistent basis and the Gals proper don't make a ton of money either. Don't confuse the HDC with the Gals (as all too many people do). The HDC runs a ton of non MLS events that generate money.
