View Full Version : Winger Towards Middle

This weekend in my first league match, I play a guy that likes to AIM, and he's excellent at it. I am thinking of at least putting one of my defenders towards the middle, maybe both for the game. My question is, I play a 3-5-2, and I'm curious, if I play a winger towards the middle would I get confusion for having 4 IM's or not? Cause I was also thinking of pushing one of my wingers who is also a passable PM towards the middle to help clog it even more for him.

Edit: This is my 2000 post, everybody party down. :D:D

If you're planning on playing a WB TM, why not get your extra IM from the WB spot?

Putting wingers towards the middle won't make them IMs, i.e. you can put three IMs in your midfield and an additional two wingers towards middle. You should however only do this if your central attack is strong enough, because your wing attack will be terrible.

Yeah, I'll do that, I was just thinking straight from the lineup I currently use, which is putting a CD spot as my extra IM.

Thanks

I was going to suggest the same thing. Drop the weak side WB to extra inner mid and run an assymetrical D line. Since most of his attacks are going to the middle having two defenders there would be nice to have.

To answer this part of your question... only playing with 2 Extra IM's would give you 4 IM's. Playing towards middle doesn't make him an IM just like playing a forward defensively doesn't make him a defender.

Offensive, defensive, towards wing & towards middle have no effect on the player's actual position in the formation.

Just as a hypothetical (and also cos hattrick is down right now) if you did play 4 Inner Mids (real inner mids) you not only get confused but you lose training right? I could see a way where this might be useful to still run a 3-5-2

But have both a wing back and a forward as inner mids and a winger as the second forward.

Do you lessen your confusion cos it is still 3-5-2? I might use this in a pinch where I am hopelessly outmatched in midfield.

I don't think there will be confusion since this is a standard formation. I'm waiting for confirmation of this. Training will be lost though.

That's what I figured, that might be worth a shot once every three seasons or something! :)

That's right. An extra IM won't give you much more midfield power than a WTM though, so it'd be a waste of valuable training...
