LOL! :D
Ferguson's Maccabi mix-up (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/2265863.stm)
Defeats by Bolton and Leeds, problems up front, problems in the middle - and now Sir Alex Ferguson can't even remember which team his Manchester
United side are playing. Fergie was left red-faced in a news conference ahead of Wednesday's
Champions League tie when he confused United's opponents, Maccabi Haifa, with their arch-rivals.
"We've watched their videos," began Ferguson confidently. "Israeli football has improved a lot and beating Lokomotiv Moscow, Parma and AC Milan last season was a big step up. "We know we cannot underestimate them."
Cue an embarrassed silence from the watching media.
Lilach Sonin, a presenter on Israeli television, was the brave woman who pointed out his error.
"I think you are speaking about a different team, " she volunteered.
Still Fergie ploughed on. "They've made changes?" he asked.
"No," replied Sonin, "you are talking about a different team - Hapoel Tel Aviv."
