then leave frankie hejduk off the field. He has no business playing right wing in a 3 - 5 - 2. An American football player can accomplish what he does. Be really fast and get himself open and then do nothing with the ball.
Also, Beaser showed he would have no problems playing down the right as he tormented ES down that side as soon as he made the switch.
I understand exactly why Lewis got in before Convey against ES and agree completly. But I think against Panama Convey, Gaven, and Eddie Johnson should be starting the match.

OK, I'll play. Love the idea and love your lineup, Appoo, but we both know it's not going to happen (at least on Wed.). I think we should go that route because it places the burden on the young dogs, Bease and Landon, as the engine that runs this team. Especially with no Reyna, this should be their role. Let 'em loose. We saw a little of this when Lewis came on.
It's pointless to attempt to predict what Arena might do (Gibbs at LB?) and we don't really know the injury status at this point, but here's my idea of a likely 3-5-2.
-----------Pope----------Berhalter----------Boca----------
----------------Sanneh-------------Kerry/Pablo------------
DMB----------------------Landon---------------------Lewis
-----------------McBride------------EJ--------------------
This way we could start or transition to 4-4-2 by sliding Tony back. My rationale is that Arena likes Berhalter's organization in the back, even though I'd rather slide Pope center and see Gooch. Lewis on the left over Convey because he's been on lately (both the field and form). EJ up top because Wolff picked up a knock (purely speculation on my part) and Bruce brought him on at the end for a reason; McBride for stability. Subs could include Gaven for Lewis and slide DMB left, Gooch for whoever's tired/carded, Casey for McBride.
It probably won't happen. We don't know the status of Sanneh and Boca and others. I'm probably way off, but the speculation is fun. I do worry that the quick athletic Panamanian forward could cause Berhalter to Berhalter, and we'll probably see Frankie again...

Has Mssr. Guchi every played in a back?
(BTW hope Guchi keeps his cool better than Standard-mate Deflandre)
Also - Gibbs can't play Wed. I think we will back to a 4.

I think Onyewu is from DC, or near there. I would pencil him in the starting line-up. Berhalter's passes to the Sallie players just aren't going to cut it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, i think that he played for the same club team that Freddy later played for (Potomac).

We don't know. Just want to see him because he's huge and has cornrows. From Connolly's comments on the Gooch thread, an appearance seems unlikely.

Dropping Lewis for Convey is insane, sorry. Lewis is in mad form for Preston, and Convey has shown only flashes of potential so far.
I don't get to watch much MLS so I can't comment on Gaven. I was under the impression he had been sent back to his club team, though.
Other than that I like it. I want to see Gooch get a runout. Keep Berhalter on the bench in case he chokes too bad.

I would suggest not starting a guy in an unknown position for a first cap. I'm a bit conservative that way. The La Louviere that I saw was a 4 back. I think Standard is the same.
Without Gibbs I don't think we really have the manpower for a 3 - I think we're back to a 4.

Supposedly, Gaven went back to the Nats after his game on Sat. I doubt he'll play against Panama, but if BA is fed up with Mathis, that would be a great switch, as Apoo suggests. Lots of midfield work ethic, great creativity and able to take on multiple defenders in the middle of the field, working at slow speed and in tight space. The wave of the future, but maybe not quite yet. But, why Johnson instead of McBride? And, why not Sanneh at right back? I think it will be 4 in the back, anyway, with Convey on the bench. We also have to wait to see about Zavagnin and whether he can go again.

all I'm really saying is that leave hejduk out. I don't mind if Lewis is in for Convey. He's earned it while Convey has not (beyond the fact that Convey is the more talented player). If your going to play a 352 than you need tremendous wingers, and hejduk does not fit in

According to you....a poster on BS. According to the guy making the decisions, who's wisdom we peons have no right to question, Hejduk is th best available. Afterall, we got the result....no need to question. Right?

I think we might be in trouble if Arena expects Sanneh to cover the entire right flank against Panama the way Hejduk did against El Salvador.

An American football player can accomplish what he does. Be really fast and get himself open and then do nothing with the ball.
Like Beckham at Real--the Forest Gump of Spanish soccer because he runs all day long and accomplishes absolutely nothing?
Still, Hejduk is a better defender than Convey so I'd start him on the left with a flat back 4, and maybe even on the left with only 3 in the back if Sanneh is not ready to play against Panama.
Run Hejduk Run!!!

So, you're saying that without Hejduk, we are lost????

In an attempt to not let this turn into a Convey thread:
I thought it was the other way around, and that Onyewu would have played at Potomac long after Adu, given how old Freddy really is.

Convey, Gooch and Howard have to be in the lineup. If not, it was a mistake to pull them away from their clubs.
I like the notion that this is "If Arena wants to go ..."
Is it more likely than "if arena wants to wear a monkey on his butt?"
In case it is:
Howard
Sanneh Gooch Boca
Kzag PMas
LD Mathis Convey
McB Johnson
