A comprehensive win by the USA-- 2-0 away from home in Central America, goals from McBride and Eddie Johnson. Bring on Panama at RFK on Wednesday.
Discuss the serious points of the match here.

How hurt was Zavagnin at the end? Apoo mentioned it, but never gave details. Anyone?

Should also add that regardless of the other results, the USA maintains its grip on top of Group 1.

looked like he got his foot kicked by an ES defender. Last I saw of his he was getting treated on the sideline. we'll have to wait for US Soccer to say something

If we win on Wednesday don't we qualify for the Hex too?

USA 8 pts +4
Jamaica 5 pts +2
Panama 5 pts E
El Salvador 3 pts -6
We clinch advancement on Wednesday with a win, or a draw combined with an ES win over Jamaica. Every team, even ES, still controls their own fate.
Just end the suspense on Wednesday, especially since the Jamaica fixture conflicts with MLS Cup.

Actually about the only way we CAN'T qualify for the hex is if we lose BOTH of our remaining games, and even then there is still a chance we will. :p

Actually I would kinda like it if we lost to Panama on Wed. and Jamaica beats El Salvador, meaning that Columbus would be rocking in November for that game, which I have tickets for.
I know it's kinda greedy, but I don't think it'll be as much fun if we have already clinched a spot. :/

Nice job USA! McBride and Eddie Johnson find the back o the net. Very nice to beat the Guanacos in their National Stadium.
I play ball with mostly Sallies on Tuesdays so this double on them carries a lot of wieght on the field.
Here's to a tremendous future for EJ. If all stay healthy we could see an attacking 5 like this in the very near future.
---Buddle--EJ
DMB---Donovan---Adu

A very nice professional win. I wish the $25 telecast was as professional. Is it to much to expect the "expert" commentator to have a basic understanding of the offside Law??

Quite possible, Jim. I would think that we would, with as little as a draw and definitely so with a win.
I'll jumble some numbers and have a look into that later tonight-- but for now, I have to take my wife and myself to the doctor (yes, even on a Sunday here).

(Sorry for the repeat post from the pbp thread; I realized this is probably a more appropriate location.)
You know, for as much as we like to criticize The Bruce for playing too many fossils (Stewart, Jones, Hejduk) guess how many players have earned their first cap with the USMNT this year?
Would you believe....
7?!?!?
Conor Casey
Eddie Gaven
Eddie Johnson
Brian Mullan
Pat Noonan
Jonny Walker
John Wolyniec
and Ching had just one cap prior to this year; now he has 5. KZ had 2 at the beginning of the year; he's up to 9.
I'd say at least 6 of the above have excellent shots of being in the lineup in Germany (Casey, Ching, Gaven, Johnson, Noonan, KZ) with Mullan and Walker outside possibilities.

What an ugly WCQ road match on the road in Central America. Not much to say other than:
- Good to see EJ get in the game and get a goal with his first cap;
- Pope looked out of sorts on the few occassions he was pressured. THis is not the same Pope.
- The officiating was uneven but not biased. It was a welcome change.
- McBride has El Sal's number. It's almost spooky.
- BA's critics will find something negative to say but he is producing results.

Yes - that broadcast truly sucked. Mine looked so washed out, I could barely tell the players from the field. Not the mention the fact I had a hard time ordering it because I had no idea what my pin number was.

I'll just go with what obie says here... sounds pretty spot-on to me. :)

This one was seemingly never in doubt. We dominated from start to finish.
Only our finishing left a bit to be desired. Donovan should have scored and how MAthis tripped over that ball I don't know.
McBride continues his torment of ES with a great finish, DMB with a great through ball to to LD with the layoff to EJ to tap in.
Took care of business. That's all that was necessary.

I wish now that I had ordered the PPV but I's HAPPY about the win. When's the last time we won a WCQ in central america??
Judging by US soccer's matchtracker, Beasley was amazing. Surprised that Arena brought in EJ for McBride when it was still 1-0, especially because it was his FIRST cap & it was on the road in WCQ. Boy, does Arena look like a genius for that move!! I HOPE Zavagnin is ok.
If we win v Panama on Wednesday night, we're in. If we draw, I think we still would have to get a result v Jamaica in Columbus next month (which I'll be at).
Way to go, USA!!
