Does the current A-League Sounders ownership's desire to move away from the name "Sounders" if they get an MLS franchise have anything to do with their budding relationship with the "Emerald City Football Club" Youth soccer club?
ECFC suddenly began draping flags at home Sounders matches late in the season, and their website now features direct advertising and Sounders links.
Is Hanauer interested in more than just getting kids to the games? Does the name "Emerald City Soccer Club" appear on his 2006 wish list?
(The ECFC website address is down right now.)

To be honest, ECFC is likely a better-run organization than the A-League Sounders are.

From August 2004...
Emerald City Night at the Sounders
Thanks to the efforts of Debbie Tonkovich, almost 550 Emerald City FC players, families, and friends attended the Seattle Sounders on August 18th.
Gates open at 2:15 that afternoon, and spectators got to see GU14 green and GU15 white teams scrimmage, followed by the Eton matches against our BU17 and BU18 teams. Several of our players also served as ball girls and boys and some escorted the Sounders players onto the field.
Merwin Peters made a special presentation during half-time. Ken Bounds, superintendent of the Park Department, was invited to the Sounders game as our guest. During half-time Merwin thanked Ken and his department for their relentless hard work, especially on the success of the Magnuson project.

Hmmmmmmmm that was quick! ECFC has a bunch of good teams on the youth level, they run a premier tournament (Diadora Cup) very well, and they have some of the soccer community on their side. ECSC I could deal with.

Hell, CONCACAF is probably better run than the Sounders.

On a related note, the one thing that I would change about Emerald City's badge would be to change the half-circle of Blue inside the White inverted "C" to Green. As a result, the "E" would stand out more.

Interesting idea, however, the Sounders have "club" night games for several local Puget Sound clubs, not just ECFC...you would have seen just as many Crossfire banners on Crossfire night. The Sounders offer youth organizations a group discount on admission for their club's "day" and have team members field balls.

I would say green "E" for emerald, but, latest logo has ECFC in bold white with a black drop shadow layered over the blue/white/green circle, so the entire "E" in the background is lost. Go Red Sox!

Actually, guys, I think here is your best bet for team name, euro-style:
PUGET SOUND S.C.
Notice the LINK with SOUNDers.
IMHO, if I'm the decision-maker I go for this one...

Can you use the "Emerald City" and still keep the "Sounders?" That's the best name in my eyes. Emerald City Sounders just sounds great, rolls right off the tongue. Even has a little bit of alliteration. Plus it combines the Euro-style and the American city-nickname style well without sounding too forced.

Wizards would probably be pissed if we went with "Emerald City" :D
Actually, Puget Sound SC/FC would at least throw a bone to those who don't want to see "Sounders" go away -- if a new ownership were to decide to go with a different nickname.
IIRC, there's a rugby club here called "Old Puget Sound Beach RFC" so it wouldn't be unprecedented...

If you named the team this, you would instantly have the best name in MLS. And yoiu could still call them, informally, the Sounders.

Regardless of whether or not the team makes it into MLS, I hope the team remains named the "Seattle Sounders".
