Any news on Zak this season? Any chance of getting up soon? How is the defensive depth?

I am a fan of Whitbread's and he certainly has a lot of potential.

Unfortunately he didn't have the greatest of pre-season's and his vulnerabilities showed against some class opposition.

I doubt he will see much time this season unless we get a rash of injuries or we are totally out of the running as the season ends.

Next season or the season after maybe.

It would take 3 or 4 injuries to the back line before Whitbread will get a chance, which realistically would not happen. I say this because Liverpool have at least Traore and Henchoz to fill in if injuries happen.

And from what I saw of him in preseason USA action I would be very worried if he was up against premiership strikers week in and week out. He needs a year or 2 more of reserves, like kopite said.

well, ive read that Henchoz is on his way out of liverpool,so that will put him behind traore and raven(i think thats his name).well, actualy,i think Zak is the natural replacement for sami hyypia, since they both are very similar(from what i saw in preseason).we will shurely be talking about him in around 3 years, when hes matured enough to be playing at the highest level.

I certainly feel after seeing him play in some early pre-season matches that he deserves to play before the likes of Biscan & Medjani (whose on loan anyway) and to a lesser extent Traore. Good talent for the future but needs a run out soon, possibly in the Carling Cup.
