Result warning for the morons out there.

Anything can happen in World Cup qualifying:

LIE 2 :: POR 2

All of a sudden, tying in the 89th minute in Kingston and the 94th minute in Panama City doesn't seem so bad.

Keep that in mind when watching tonight's game.

Warning Holland 2nd half result alluded to below.

I think you are discounting how much more difficult it is to qualify in Europe. It is obvious that Leichtenstein and Macedonia are head and shoulders above Jamaica and Panama.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic. My sacasmo-meter busted in the Salt Lake press conference.

So:

FIFA Rankings:
Jamaica: 51
Panama: 103

Leichenstein: 151
Macedonia: 92

Warning Italy-Slovenia and Macedonia-Netherlands spoilers below

Sorry to hear about your sacasmo-meter.

Yes I was being sarcastic.

I am sorry that I used your perfectly reasonable post to advance my agenda against the euro-snobs (not being sarcastic).

BTW Slovenia0-0Italy in about the 80th minute
and Final Macedonia 2-2 Holland

Minnows just aren't what they used to be.

Since European resultophobes have already left this thread, here's one more ...

Cyprus 2-2 Faroe Islands

We may not have had the worst result in the world, but according to the Elo ratings (eloratings.net), our tie in Panamá was about as good as the Faroes did in Cyprus.

Sure it does.

Playing poorly is playing poorly, whether the USA is doing it or Portugal is. The USA needs to play better regardless of what anyone else is doing. The USA is fortunate to have 5 points at this stage instead of 3 and the offense is not plyaing well. I realize it's chic to bash the "typical Big Soccer poster" but expecting US fans to be happy with the performances to date is a hell of a lot more unreasonable than any of the typical accuations leveled against them. I'm fairly certain the Portuguese fans sure as hell are unpleased with the result.

The only really bizarre result of the ones listed is the Liechtenstein result. Macedonia and Slovenia can both play on par with the Canada and Jamaica level of teams, and Slovenia might even be at Honduras levels. Cyprus and the Faroese are roughly equal in quality.

Excellent point, my friend. It's all about perspective.

And for what it's worth, the USA is still on top in Group 1... I think a lot of us have let this fact slip.

LOL...Isn't it bizarre? non-conformists are now called moronic....
I still find it amazing how often people will post with the only intention to denigrate healthy criticism, which i think in most cases arises out of a sense of optimism and the hopefulness that we can do better with what we have....
I think a very small minority (if any) of the true US fans who are critical do it due to disdain or out of hatred for the coach....But hey, what do i know!

BTW, i couldn't care less what happens in Portugal (unless Kenny Cooper related :D) , thanks.... But i'm sure the reactions you'll see there will be a hell of a lot worse than anything seen in these boards... Who would blame them? They love their NT, just like we (yes including those of us who critcize at times) love our own.....

The bottom line is that qualifiers on the road are tough, for pretty much everyone and pretty much everywhere. Inferior teams can pick up wins, and vastly inferior teams can earn draws. It happens all the time, and it's worthwhile to remember that fact before completely freaking out the next time it happens to us.

The two games where we should have blown people out on the road (Grenada, Panama) were both played in the rain, on fields with standing water. That had a lot to do with it. We deserved the draw in Jamaica.

Road qualifiers are tough.
And again it's beside the point. When the team doesn't play well, it certainly shouldn't be called "moronic" to point out the difficulties the team had been having.

When the USA plays poorly like they surely did against Panama, expect to hear about it on Big Soccer. I'm sure they're hearing about it on the Portuguese equivalent of Big Soccer right now as well.

It is all about context. The original post was targeted, IMO, to those that say the US sucks because of a couple of draws. Whereas we know that Portugal, Italy and France don't suck, they just had poor games.

As far as Macedonia and Slovenia, V Jamaica and Canada, I think most on here would feel vendicated if the US was getting similar comparisons with Italy and Holland.

Thus negating the kindness of a highlight to reveal post... :)
It doesn't matter what region you play in, road Qs are always killers. Why that shouldn't apply to us, I have no idea.
nice thread, btw.

In Portugal's case that would 'only' mean facing criticism appearing on the internet, TV, radio, newspapers, and just about every home and street corner....
But leave it to someone on BS to call moronic people who have valid criticism, and being in the US, do not find that many places where to express their views.... It's been rare to see posters who have called for BA's head, only a bunch of us who point to how the team looked and where it could have done better....you know, because we want to see improvement.... Damn, what a foolish thing to do..... Now i wish i could challenge myself to a duel for having a dissenting opinion :D That was a little Zell moment....
