CONCACAF Standings after Wednesday

Here's what I think we'll see after this week's WCQ games...

Group 1

US will clinch. The other 3 teams will all be within a point of one another and 2nd place is wide open.

Predictions: US v. El Sal, Pan v. Jam and Jam v. El Sal all result in draws. US beats Panama.

Standings:

US 9 points
Jamaica 6 pts
El Salv 5 pts
Panama 5 pts

Group 2

Canada will be eliminated and Guatemala will be within a point of clinching - given that they play Canada last, that's a lock.

Predictions: Hond defeats Canada, Costa Rica defeats Guatemala, Canada draws Costa Rica and Guatemala defeats Honduras.

Standings:

Guatemala 10 pts
Honduras 8 pts
Costa Rica 7 pts
Canada 2 pts

Group 3

Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago both clinch advancement.

Predictions: St. Vinc. loses to Mexico, T&T beats St. Kitts, Mexico beats T&T and St. Kitts beats St. Vinc.

Standings:

Mexico 12 pts
T&T 9 pts
St. Kitts 3 pts
St. Vinc 3 pts



Predictions for Finals

USA, Mexico, T&T and Guatemala will definitely be in.

I'm predicting that Honduras will prevail over Costa Rica in Honduras to knock CR out of WCQ and advance.

Jamaica has United States at home in their final game and US will have already advanced -- so will play a younger lineup. Jamaica takes the 2nd Group 1 spot.

Pretty good analysis. The only match I'm not sure I agree with is the Canada v CR match. If CR wins that match then all CR has to do in Honduras is tie to advance. So, I think they'll pull out a win in the Canada match to ensure that scenario.

Man it sucks to be in that group of death.

As for our last game vs Jam. If we are qualified and have the opportunity to eliminate them, we should try to do so. With TnT and Panama in the hex, I would be extremely unlikely for us not not finish top four. The chances for that happening are greater (althought still unlikely) if Jamaica replaces Panama in the hex.

In the group of death, I wouldn't count out honduras...with david suazo, they have the best froward in concacaf, and I don't think guatemala and Costa rica can handle him...

after all Honduras crushed CR 5-2 in san jose, and barring OVERCONDFIDENCE from Honduras...i expect them the take care of business....the hondruas visit to rfk should remind us what they could do...

as to jamaica, given usa has clinched, I'm all for playing Johnson and Gaven and Onyewu, and letting the chips fall where they may.....
