View Full Version : Florida MLS Team
Dammit!

I'm moving on over to Florida, and, even if MLS never comes back there, I am glad for the fact that there are a lot of international and pre-season games played there.
But, having said that, how about the "Orlando Landsharks?" I think it's catchy. Come on, let Disney put some $$ into soccer like it has baseball, hockey, etc.
That reminds me, Disney can take its hockey budget and use it to start its MLS expansion team!

Welcome to Florida Dammit.
Any idea where your moving to?
Miami/Ft Lauderdale get a lot of internationals but Orlando/Space Coast have the most PDL teams.

Dude when did I say Rollins was good, a year ago? LOL
Anyone know if PDL Kraze beat UCF today in their friendly?

You got that right. Florida needs a team. In a state where the Sunshine Network shows EVERY Florida game it can get it's hands on, from HS to college to pro, they have a fan base. Maybe if they had one team, fans from Tampa and Miami could keep intrest up with a combined effort.

What about Jacksonville? It's probably not their first choice (I'd have to go with Miami as the 1st), but they don't really have much except the Jags.
The only downside to Miami is, the people there do not care about their teams unless they're a top team. Miami wouldn't care so much about the 'Canes if they were good al lthe time. The same with the Dolphins. Has anyone seen more than 1,000 people at a regular season Marlins game? It's pathetic. The people don't show up unti lthey're in the playoffs, even when they have a good season! I can see why they're probably moving to Vegas. Miami is bandwagon sports town.

no worries fellows
soon there will be plenty of teams relocatin'
"MLS expansion club Chivas USA continued to follow a disturbingly similar path to the Fusion last weekend when it drew just 12,697 to its second home game at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. That was roughly 6,000 less than its poorly attended home opener, leaving Chivas with 4,000 fewer fans than the now-defunct Fusion attracted for its first two games."

Oww. That's gotta suck for them...

This week, Chivas had barely 10,000 PAID, so thats about 7,000 maybe in the seats. I thought the HDC looked empty.

Once they start winning they'll probably see better attendance.

Sure. That line of thought seemed to work real well for the Tampa Bay Mutiny.

One Word: Jacksonville!!!
Team could play in southern suburbs of St. Johns county (St Augustine) and be called Ancient City FC...these guys are giving money away to anyone who asks...find an owner and these people will build you a SSS

LA probably has more of a soccer loving population than the Tampa Bay area, IMO.

Exactly. Jacksonville would be great, IMO.
Ancient City FC? I don't think St. Augustine would be considered ancient. Rome is ancient, Athens is ancient, St. Augustine is just old. They could be Old City FC or Elder City or maybe just St. Augustine FC. Ancient makes me think of BC.
I think I've figured out FC (Football Club?), AC (Athletic Club?), and United (Sounds good and/or it's a combination of older clubs), but what is Real? What does Real stand for?
I guess we could cause trouble and Americanize it, slapping SC (Soccer Club) on the name.

Jacksonville? Sure it would be nice if a mystery investor popped up and bought a team and built a SSS. But this town can't even keep their NFL team happy. 2nd lowest attendance in the NFL. Ouch!

Umm, they were 14th out 32, in 03 they were 2nd to last. Their attendance sucked before that for a while, but I think the reason for that is that when they came into the league they were really good (first expansion team to make the postseason). Then once that team got split up, they sucked. They had not had a winning record in 5 years until their 9-7 season last year.
The fans never learned how to care about a losing team. They got spoiled with the early success of the team. That's my assertion anyway.
I think they could support a soccer team. I think there's enough wealthy people in the area that would be able to build a SSS. The trouble would be convincing them to do it.

Hey I am all for any Florida city getting a MLS team. However, Jax has not been able to keep a amatuer womens, mens/PDL, indoor/outdoor soccer for more than one year ever. And considering the issues they are having with public funds paying for sports facilities in Florida, you better pray a wealthy philantropist appears. Otherwise Jax is not ever going to happen.
