A proposed plan to house United and their staff in Fairfax County..

Check out the quote from the egghead opposed to United moving in...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A26627-2002Sep16.html

Some people simply don't have a friggin' clue....

Apparently this woman is under the delusion that United trains all night long and will bring in massive crowds to disrupt the neighborhood.. Little does she know that training is usually over before she can get her big arse off the couch from watching The View...

Someone needs to clue her in that the only soccer lunatics there at night will be soccer moms and dads who can't control their tempers.

This is classic. :)
"It's going to destroy our quality of life," Karen Gabersek said. "You're not going to be able to see the stars. You're going to hear noise from these soccer lunatics. We're concerned about crime in the neighborhood. It's just so peaceful out here now. . . . I worry about the wildlife, too."
Soccer lunatics ... that's internet nuts, maam. Internet nuts. Get it right.

And crime? C'mon!

She's clearly lost her mind, I mean, who would pay $700,000 for a house on 5 acres in the the sprawling Virginia suburbs?

Well.. I plan on conducting some involuntary socialism while I'm there. I'll just frame Mejido for it.

Ms. Gabersek has got so much to worry about already:
now add increased neighborhood crime, not being able to see the stars, a struggle to protect wildlife AND WORST OF ALL, fending off soccer hooligans.

All this from her $700,000 house... well we should all feel for her.

". . . I worry about the wildlife, too."

Is there something we don't know about United's staff and their habits with wildlife?

How will she be able to hear the noise over the non-stop din of SUVs?

To be fair.. she has a point. What happens when the Metrostars come to town?

Seriously, folks... is this just a training complex or a real first step toward an SSS in Virginia? And could the NoVa Royals play there?

It's a training complex and youth field park - kind of a cross between the old United Park and a smaller version of the SoccerPlex in Germantown. Two training fields, an office building, and seven public fields.

I personally love how a two-story building is going to wreck view of the stars from a five-acre lot.

My impression is that this is strictly a training ground and place for office space..

And how!

What it is is a near-identical version (with a slightly larger office area) of the Obetz Training Facility in Columbus.

I've been to Obetz, several times.

If such a facility could possibly affect this woman's life in any way, I'll drive her kids to soccer practice every day for a year.

And her concern for the wildlife of the area is charming. I'm sure she had concern for wildlife and all humanity when she bought her brand-new Range Rover.

i kinda hope she defeats the proposal, so a big office building, or Wal-Mart moves in. That'll be great for the wildlife.

I plan on staging a pitch invasion every day at the end of practice. Who is with me??

I think she was referring to the lights. White light makes it harder to see the stars.

I'm a soccer lunatic. If Fairfax doesn't want United, I would hope a DC United rep would call Arlington County. Maybe they could get in on the North Tract Park deal.

the reality is that most likely wherever they happen to build a training facility and/or a SSS there is likely to some opposition.

i wonder if United has ever considered the Sports Complex in PG County (not far from Jack Kent Cooke Stadium), very close to the Beltway. It already has several facilities, and indoor arena, etc. its much closer to RFK. I don't know about the potential for an office there. also, PG government seems to be very eager to attract new business/attractions--i am sure they would be very acomodating.

Enforcer is right, the lights would definitely affect her ability to see the stars. Problem is, with the massive metropolis of DC so close, she can't see that many to begin with. I wonder if she could point out any constellations other than the Big Dipper?

As far as wildlife, I wonder how many trees she left on her five acre plot, and how many times a week she has her lawn mowed. I would love to know more about this woman's lifestyle just to see how concerned for the environment she really is.
