Quickly, from this article, El Salvador hasn't announced their lineup yet as they are waiting to see who the US brings. They are also thinking of bringing in Ronald Cerritos, since he'd have the best knowledge on the US players.

Ok here's a start....

Go to "Deportes" once you're in. Then go to "Futbol" and/or "Copa Mundial" .... And see what you can Babel Fish....

I'll translate some when I can - a little later. Just from skimming it as it turns out Cerritos is playing for ELS.... So his MLS knowledge might help em A LOT... but we'll see.... T

Uh, right. Cerritos is going to be huge for them. Let's hope he whiffs a few like he did in MLS.

Their DT has the squad training hard to get their wind up and is looking at going with a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-3. Cerritos WILL be starting up top either way.

And that kid that got sent off at the Razor for the chain wants his revenge! Lots of talk by him and I can't wait to see how he reacts on Saturday.

Dale U S AAAAAA!!!

Just watch out for any shank crosses going across the 16.

Some info from the Official El Sal thread on the CONCACAF board

The ES national team had a friendly this afternoon against the leader of the first division of ES, SAN SALVADOR FC.

The game started with a very dominant San Salvador club that dominated most of the first half, making the ES national team look bad. As a result to their good first half, San Salvador FC took the lead and went to the lockeroom with a 1-0 lead over the national team.

In the second half San Salvador fc made a few changes from their starting line up and fortunately the ES national team stepped up and presurred until they were able to level the score. though the game wasn't that great over all, the national team managed to win 4-1 over San Salvador FC.

Chao

And this followup:

The ES media saids that San Salvador FC played with players from the reserves in the second half, and they weren't even from the bench.

I have the feeling that this was a set up for the second half because the national team looked bad. I guess they didn't want to get the team confidence low before a crucial game against the USA. As much as I hate to say what I'm about to say, is that I think the USA is going to cruise over ES in San Salvador
:(

This is seriously concerning because the starting team of san salvador outplayed the ES national team!! I honestly think that we really don't have anything else to do in this last 3 games. The national team looks bad as when Paredes was the coach. I think only a miracle is going to make us qualify to the hexagonal.

Article on DMB in El Salvador. Says his speed complements good technical ability, strength, and a nose for goal. Also makes claim that unlike other players like Freddy Adu, he is 100% "made in USA". Goes on to say he made it to PSV and has done well, has represented the US at World Cups in under 17, 20, and the national team. Said he was at Athens with the under 23 (????).

Quotes Arena saying he has lightning speed, is quick, and has intelligent defensive instincts. Arena also says that young players that go to big clubs aren't always able to succeed but that DMD has done so.

Also mentioned Cobi Jones and his ever increasing number of caps and the number of Europe based players that have come to camp. Interesting Arena quote where he says that El Salvador will be difficult at home because they want to end up on top of the group, and that the US will have to follow the traditional theory of win at home and tie on the road.

I hate it so much when he says that, ...it just a road towards negative soccer. Anytime you play for a tie you stand a chance to loose. I wish he would change this silly talk, and rather say "best defence is offence and we always try to win home or away"

In a 3-1 victory against the Salvadoran under 20 team. Author opens with saying that when 3 points aren't at stake, non-regulation length game, an empty stadium, coaches as refs, and against a team very different from the US, it's difficult to evaluate the team.

Says that the coach hasn't even decided whether he'll play a 3-4-3 or a 4-4-2. Quote from the coach says "I like them both. "With three in the backline they don't score against us and with four we can put more players forward."

The author says the new team has the same problem as the old team, they do a good job taking care of the ball in the midfield (mentioned Santos Cabrera and Victor Merino), but that doing that well doesn't cause the opposition any problems. The final pass is something they haven't figured out how to do yet but that the few times they did they scored.

He was positive about the defense, but said the "old" and "new" team are both poor finishers. He then went on to compare the team that went to Boston vs the current squad with the new coach.

Said the keeper (Rivera) will likely be changed for Misael Alfaro. (less than eight minutes of first half injury time perhaps?)

A strong, veteran three man back linewith limited offensive skills in Boston (Prado, Guevara, Victor) will be replaced with a younger, more skilled three or four man lineup. Guevara is not on the team and Prado is out.

Very defensive midfield in Boston (Murgas, Rodriguez, Pacheco, Gonzales, Alas) which created nothing. In El Salvador will have youth with either Alas or Zelaya, Rodriguez stays for experience, and Cabrera or Merino will add creativity. Still very defensive.

Two strikers in Boston (Cerritos and Galdamez). No service and no support.
In El Salvador says there will be at least three, with Cerritos and Galdamez and either Martinez or Vichez playing center forward.

Had some quotes from Zarco Rodriguez saying he's not worried about playing with a yellow. Midfielder Santos Cabrera came back from an injury but took a knock that had coaches nervous but looks ok.

The more players they put forward the better. El Salvador is still in the rainy season so hopefully a big storm won't roll through and soak the field.

You may hate it but it is a time honored road to success.

In what sense? Have there been teams that didn't take this approach and failed as a result?

Of course there is more than one way to go about skinning a cat. Playing for a draw on the road is a widely accepted method that most managers use. If you could accomplish it most times and win your home games, you'd be successful.

Playing for a tie on the road could make sense. But is that the only factor? How about the quality of the team you are playing against? How about the field conditions? The crowd? How about the form of your team and your opponents? Just to say tie on the road is too simplistic and cookie cutter. In my opionion, in this case, playing for a tie against El Salvador seems like a lack of confidence in our team. But thats just me... I think we are better than that.

agreed , and how funny it is that no matter who we play Bruce always says "they are a good team , blah, blah, blah " .
I just like to see a change in attitude and raise the confidence level to a higher level.
And i ment to say BEST DEFENCE IS OFFENSE

This is a new El Salvadorian article that analyzes the difference that ES played in Boston in comparison to how they will play at home. I am not a translator so I will need help. Thanks to those who have translated on this post.

Article that predicts starters based on workout yesterday. Starts out with coach and players talking about faith and confidence and that they believe they can win against a superior opponent.

In terms of lineup it looks like a 3-5-2:

Defense: Tobar - Velasquez - Gonzalez (all from FAS ,the best club team in El Salvador in recent history)

Midfield: Benitez Cabrera Rodriguez Umanzar Dubon

Strikers: Cerritos Gonzalez

Didn't mention a keeper but yesterday it looked like they were leaning towards veteran Misael Alfaro

Did say that there was a possibility of a change in one of the o-mid positions

There was a whole paragraph devoted to 25 new pairs of Adidas that arrived for the game and how the breaking in process was going.
