“Rightfully called the Asian Maradona”, says ‘Kicker’
German bi-weekly sports magazine ‘Kicker’ in it’s Monday issue describes Karimi as “Asia’s Maradona”, naming him as the probably next bright star to enter the European club football stage. “I am really wondering, that he doesn’t play his football in Europe yet”, German Rainer Hollmann, currently coaching Al Shabab of UAE is quoted. “Ali Karimi is able to do simply everything, he is extremly dangerous inside the box and one can barely say what he’ll do next. He has the eye to see the better placed teammate or is ice cold to finish off himself. Such players don’t just grow on trees. I wish I had him in my team”, Hollmann continues.
The German sports paper with high reputation goes on mentioning Karimi’s contract will run out in 2005, adding that it is more than just likely the outstanding offensive player will try his luck in Europe then. Olympique Marseille, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are named to already have an eye on the Iranian.
Despite - usually false - rumours about Karimi joining European top clubs appeared regulary ever since 2000, his great performances during the 2004 Asian Cup and earlier reports, linking Karimi to Hamburg SV, Hertha Berlin and AS Rome, make it appear a done deal that the former Persepolis player will sign with a major European club next season. A good game against Germany this Saturday and a contribution to a victory in Qatar four days later, would definitely just increase the number of offers.

I hope he doesn't go to Real Madrid. Real Madrid is my favorite team but they will not let him play much. And he definitely doesn't deserve to be benched.

C'mon... Asian Maradona? What, does Karimi have a cocaine problem, too? Has this guy led Iran to a World Cup championship? Color me underwhelmed.
Kicker... for Real Madrid news? Show me where Marca or even AS reports this, THEN I'll believe there to be some credence to this.

I would rate kicker more believable than Marca or AS, there were quiet some articles written there, e.g about the Ballack-Barca rumors this summer, which were purely lies.
@topic: I have to admit that i never heard of that guy and don't think that bayern will buy him. At the moment Bayern has Ze Roberto, Ballack, Frings, Deisler, Hargreaves, Schweinsteiger... That are 6 top-class players for 4 positions in the midfield. Next year probably either Tevez or Van der Vaart will join bayern, so there won't a place for a new midfielder.

There is no question that Karimi is the most talented Asian player of this decade. He'll tear it up wherever he goes. He should have gone to a strong European club years ago instead of wasting his time in the UAE, dribbling circles around his competition, and making hat-tricks lose their meaning.

I'd rate Kicker over Marca and AS for German news, but to say that you trust Kicker over the other two for Real Madrid news is pure hilarity. Marca is the top source for reliable Madrid news without a doubt, with AS a close second. And don't kid yourself, Kicker has it's share of tabloidism, too. All sports dailys do. They need stories to fill their pages, and with outrageous rumors and controversy to sell more copy.
Personally, I like Karimi. When I've seen him play, he's looked good. But really, who's he going to beat out for a spot? Zidane? Raul? Morientes? Ronaldo? Figo? Beckham? Even Solari? Try none of the above.
Maybe Atlético Madrid could use him. :p

if half the news in the korean media was true, Real Madrid would be made up of Korean players.
Maybe Kicker was aiming for Iranian population in Iran? Isn't there quite a bit?

I currently live in the US, but I had lived in Madrid for over two years, in Tarragona for around eight months, and I've traveled to most parts of Spain, and portions of Portugal.

Kicker isn't a sports daily, it comes out 2x a week. But your other points could be right, i don't know..

He actually did have an offer from atletico as well as prugia and even inter millan, about 2 years ago but he turned them down for UAE $$$ :S This year he had been linked to Hamburg AS ROMA Bayern Munich and now Olympique Marseil and Real Madrid, I hope he gives up on that UAE $$$ and try some Euros for a change :-D

I can definately see Karimi on Real Madrid.
Zidane and Figo are getting up in age, and are not really doing anything great lately.
