oh really? how old is he? he looked really good on saturdasy with 2 goals, and the game when Buddle scored 4 goals, Cunninhanm set up 3 of them with perfect passes and runs.

I never really was impresed with Cunningham.. he had a chance and I don't think he's ever going to be on the radar for the Nats again.

His talent has never been in question, He's easily more talented than most of the guys we trot out there at the forward position. His attitude has always been the issue however, much like Mathis, except he has never blown up the way Mathis has to the best of my knowledge. He is also perceived as too selfish, although he threaded some great passes to Buddle when he hit his four spot. I still think Cunningham would make an excellent substitute player for the US. I don't see anyone that we bring on as a sub that could make a bigger impact on a game than Cunningham, and I would like to see Bruce consider him for that role. I can't, however, say I expect him to be recalled any time soon. Maybe during winter camp.

the US team depends alot on passing and combinations- that is not Jeff's long suit.

He's good but if he's 28 there's really no point. Edson Buddle's pretty good though, if Cunnigham were younger things might be different but since he's so old there's just no point now, you get him for Germany and that's it. I agree with Bruce S though, him not being good enough would have a lot to do with it. They're lots of guys in MLS who could get called up but they're just not good enough, doesn't mean they're not good players, they're just not good enough for the national team.

There is no one better in MLS at beating defenders on the dribble than Cunningham. He's a bit too selfish though, and sometimes holds onto the ball for too long. It's pretty hard to get him to pass the ball. Still, I think he should be given a look again.

I'd say his touch is iffy at the international level, too.

Funny, everytime someone plays a good game or 2 or 3 they surface as consideration. That said, there might be a niche spot for this guy. So fast and has a nose for the goal. Just not sure he would be consistent enough.

and that is at it should be.There was a time( until 1996) when the same guys played no matter what because there was no league to see the guys playing. If a guy gets hot in MLS, it is good that people talk about it and Bruce A takes an interest.

I was friendly with one US player and I asked him about JC.He said that "he needed to use his team-mates more".And that is about the most critical thing I ever heard this person say.

I love the depth that the US team has now as compared to pre-MLS. But you don't want to have a complete revolving door of players. Part of the reason some players play well is that they have developed a good understanding of their teamates. If we continuously ride whoever has the "hot hand" in the MLS, it may not translate into quality play at the national team, because it's an entirely different team and teamwork needs to develop. I think you need to have a lot of depth at the national team, but you can't go overboard. You need to have some sort of a team base so that people are familar with playing with each other.

I somewhat agree, although I would perfer too see the middle ground. A good base with some new guys thrown into the mix. Just playing well for a couple games doesnt do it for me. Consistency over the longer haul should count. I could see Esky getting called in before Cunningham. He has been dangerous scoring good goals all year.

He'd make a great late game substitution, much in the role that Bruce has used Cobi but Jeff has better speed and certainly a better ability to take on defenders.
But Bruce has had Cobi around so long he knows it won't mess up any sort of that "team chemistry" and by bringing in a player like Jeff, who would want to start or at least be given the chance to start, to exclusively be a late-game substitution probably wouldn't sit well with him.

Well, my grandmother, and she doesn't even WATCH soccer, saw Jeff Cunningham play and said: "That guy needs to be capped now!" Then my nephew who's like 4 1/2 said he was good. And he can barely avoid my slide tackles.
