I hope he does, but I think Arena will just stick with Hejduk!

I feel bad for Tony. He's worked hard to get back into the National Team Pool and now this...

Bruce will probably call Cherundolo back into camp because we need the depth for 2 games.

Two words: Oguchi Onyewu

I am willing to predict that Gooch will play in RFK... not so sure about San Salvador.

Justice served. Steve C. should have been in camp in the first place, and Sanneh at this point doesn't have the health or skill to play for the US anymore.

I'd admit that he may have the JOB bug when it comes to health (well, not that bad!) but how do you know he doesn't have the skill to be on the team? His play with the Crew suggests the skills are there.

Cherundolo should pull a Danny Peņa and tell Arena to pound sand. Or just say nothing and not go.

Any updates here?

I haven't seen anything about this on MLSnet or at USsoccer.com - not that either of those sites would necessarily have the most current updates. When do players report to camp?

It doesn't sound to me like Sanneh could have been very seriously hurt if he played the whole game and the Crew didn't use it's last sub:

Just thinking (and posting) out loud but maybe he's a bit more concerned than usual over a minor strain due to Columbus' mid-week game - but might be OK for Saturday against the mighty Sallies? Or next Wednesday against Panama?

I think he may actually stick Gibbs or Boca or both out at fullback. And I think he may have been thinking that all along. He only brought in two real fullbacks to this match (Hejduk & Sanneh). Convey is still something of a project.

Is it too late to call in an orange traffic cone? ;)

...At least it's not TS's back acting up again.

Sanneh appeared to be limping when the ball wasn't around, but looked fine when he was involved in a play.

Sanneh was in DC at the Nats camp as of yesterday.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A7025-2004Oct4.html

U.S. Notes: Seventeen of the 23 players on the roster participated in a 90-minute workout yesterday. Goalkeeper Tim Howard and defenders Gregg Berhalter and Oguchi Onyewu were expected to arrive from Europe later yesterday. Defender Carlos Bocanegra, forward Brian McBride and midfielder Eddie Lewis are scheduled to join the team from England today. . . . Midfielder-defender Tony Sanneh has a slight hamstring injury, suffered in his MLS game over the weekend, and worked out on the side. . . . The U.S. team is tentatively scheduled to play a closed scrimmage tomorrow against Georgetown.

I would not count Sanneh out yet.

I have watched some of the recent Crew games on MLSnet.com, and it looks to me that Sanneh is playing very well as of late. I also think Sanneh always steps it up in international play and I would have no problems if Bruce started Sanneh in the back or the midfield.

Unless there is something to the story that we don't know, I'd say you're right on the money with this one.

Arena has never seemed to like playing Cherundolo at RB even though he clearly has the best blend of youth/resume/form of anyone in the pool. From what I've seen, Cherundolo should be a fixture in the line-up.

Yeah, that's a good plan. Look how well it worked for Danny.

He won my respect. He was the first player to transcend the giddy naivete and nauseating chumminess that permeated much of the national team back then. He knew that we has going to get jerked around and he said "I have a club to play for".

Cherundolo should ask if he's going to play at the very least. If told that he won't, he'll see the handwriting on the wall, be justifiably insulted and choose not to waste his time.

Be real. Would you schlepp from Germany to Miami and then San Sally just to watch Hejduk screw things up again?

If you listen to (was on mlsnet.com) or read (ussoccer.com) Bruce's conference call about his call up decisions this time around, you will learn that Cherundolo would obviously not do this sort of thing. Bruce said that Cherundolo was very professional and wished the team luck. Bruce praised Cherundolo for his response, even though he was disappointed, and intoned that most players do not act as civilized.

BTW I am a Cherundolo fan and believe that he will be back.

Ok, so that means that Bruce left him off for Hejduk and Sanneh on ability alone...hah! God, a blind man can see that Cherundolo has more to offer than Hejduk and Sanneh!
