Let's gets this mofo started right now. It's unreal how official practices start this weekend, as does.....the season. Yup, Maine and Vermont hit the ice in Burlington on Sunday.

Check here frequently for info, as well as http://www.uscho.com/. I still get dizzy from trying to connect to the Pairwise Rankings part of the site after games last season. :D

Anyway, especially with the lockout in the NHL, let's keep this thread strong and make it better than ever. Which conference looks to be strongest, WCHA or Hockey East? Who takes it all at the end? Who knows, but it will be a fun ride.

I'll get some conversation started with the two teams in my state. Defending National Champ Denver looks to be strong once again, with lots of talent and depth back up front and on D. Will Glenn Fisher emerge in goal? It's needed since Berkhoel's graduated, and the other goalies are freshmen or (I believe) walk-ons. Ryan Caldwell's gone too, so a vocal leader must step up (Luke Fulghum?) Don't expect another national title, but definitely look for a strong, disciplined team well-coached team that will make a good run, and for Matt Carle and Brett Skinner to dominate on defense. You'll see Colorado College back in the tournament this season. Lots of young, quick talent up front, two established goalies to push each other, and Mark Stuart and Richard Petiot head the defense. Brett Sterling should be at least in the top ten of Hobey Baker candidates when it's all said and done. I hope to get to see a bunch of games at both Denver and CC, especially that a full time job allows for a bit more spending. It may be a real tough ticket with the lockout.

Can't believe I took 5 days to find this thread.

Best of luck to all teams this season.

That said, BC still sucks donkey dicks.
Flug Doody.

As I said to the flipper early this week, Chris Borque and the BU Terriers, 4-time NCAA Champions, have only one direction to go this season - up. BC also has only one direction to go - down.

Interesting that UMass-Lowell is the other ranked HEA team after the big 3 and over BU and UMass.

UNH starts it's season hosting the Ice Breaker tournament (UNH, Ohio State, St. Cloud and St. Lawrence) on Saturday. Alledgedly, the title game on Sunday will be televised, so I might have something other than pure speculation to offer then.

Please knock UND off early. Not one of my favorites by any means. I'm not suprised at all that Mass-Lowell is ranked ahead of BU and UNH. UNH is supposed to be defensively-challenged, and I really hope BU sucks again, except for Chris Bourque. If the goaltending holds up, Lowell could have its best team since the 93-94 one with a then unknown Dwayne Roolson that came oh so close to the frozen four.

Denver and Minny tonight in the Hall of Fame Classic in the Twin Cities, I forget if it's at Target Center or Xcel, but I know it's a packed house.

It's at the X. I bought my tickets on Wednesday and was told there were only 500 tickets left at the point. Should be a full house.

Gopher hockey tickets, a hot commodity around here anyway, will be even harder to get this year with no Wild games.

So I sent in my ticket application too late and the student sections at Conte had already sold out. Of course they didn't bother telling me this when I called the box office to make sure they got my order, they let me wait until yesterday when I went over to pick my tickets up.

********!!!!

It's not too big of a crisis in terms of seeing the games themselves since I'm sure I'll find a way to manage that (either buying them from other people or off Ebay for BU, UNH, Maine, Denver, and NorDak, and getting them from the ticket office morning of the game for the rest of the games), but now I can't enter the ticketholder lottery for Beanpot and HE Tournament tickets.

Mother ********er.

A few thoughts on Hockey East after the first weekend:
--Could be another long year for BU; they don't seem to have found a replacement for Sean Fields.
--UNH played 10 or 11 underclassmen in both games this weekend, and looked fairly strong.
--Maine was reduced to statements like "Sometimes you need some losses once in a while."

Sacred Heart University, 3.

Sacred Heart? Damn - who went so far as to throw them a vote?

It's not NCAA, but 2004 club hockey national champs Ohio U. are off to a flying start - going back to back, baby.

but now I can't enter the ticketholder lottery for Beanpot and HE Tournament tickets.Beanpot - try Harvard (last time I did that, they were even nice enough to sell me just a championship/consolation ticket instead of requiring that I buy both, as Northeastern would have).

HE tournament - I know that's been selling out, but won't you still be able to buy tickets in advance? Does it sell out that quickly?

How many college hockey teams can get 11,232 fans for a game against Mercyhurst? Especially at the same time that their extremely popular football team is playing at the same time.

Good idea. I might even be able to get a student ticket since I have a friend that goes there.

BC sells its student tickets for the tourny thru a lottery, last year I entered the lottery and didn't get a ticket even from the school.

Nice to see these two schools playing each other. It should be an annual game. Looks like the Minutemen acquitted themselves well.
