When there is a foul inside the penalty area by the attacking team, does the freekick have to leave the penalty area? I know its true on goalkicks. My AR told me that it did and i'm not sure.

Just like a goal kick, it's not in play until it leaves the penalty area.

His teammates may remain in the penalty area but if they touch the ball before it leaves, it's a retake
