Jack Bell got Bruce on a good day--at least for him.

Would love to see the outtakes from this call.

absolutly hilarious. And absolutly dead on. When he's done with the USMNT, and if he decides not to coach at the club level. I want him to be the next commish of MLS. He knows exactly whats needed to produce players, of any nationality. And I believe that he'll make the right changes in MLS that would lead that league to producing the best possible players it can

Cheers.

And now I know why we call him "The Bruce". :D

Yeah he is right about alot of stuff except the Ryder cup. We lost this year but we dominate the overall record 3 to 1. I think he is arrogant prick sometimes with his head up his ass too. FYI we do have the best golfers in the world.

Yeah and for all of you that love to publicy stroke Bruce at every chance you get. The MLS playoff format by 2006 will be just fine. It will be a 14 team league, in which 6 teams onwt make it. He needs to chill out a bit and have a bananna Monkey face.

Bruce calles as he sees em. And he's right about playing MLS games on the same day that the US plays. It's disgraceful.

We lead the Ryder Cup 3-1? Really? Are you sure?

On behalf of Bruce Arena, I laugh at your ignorance. I'm pretty sure you're exactly the sort of clueless homer he's talking about.

so 43% will have a post season. great. Bruce is possibly the most knowledgable person on Earth about Soccer in America. At least this side of Juergen Kilnsmann.

I still want to see the league attempt to gain entrance into Copa America. And give teams something other than respect rewards for winning.

IMHO when Bruce said "The league needs to think about a bonus system" we was talking about Monetary awards. Let teams who do well have more transfer money. Don't reward teams for doing poorly. Give them a REAL incentive for doing well.

I also want to hear Peter Wilt's opinion on this, as I think he has a wonderful soccer mind. I think he's one of the few people knowledgable enough about the sport in this country who can argue on equal footing with Bruce on this subject

But good on The Bruce for telling it like it is.

It's shocking that they gave him the job in the first place since he was every bit as critical of MLS ("coaching in MLS is the worst soccer coaching job in the world") and the USSF ("too much business at the USSF gets done over cocktails") when he was at DC United.

That's probably the first time I've wanted to hug Bruce for anything he's said or done, absolutely brilliant he's right about everything he said. Me being the awful fan that I am had no idea that the metros were playing columbus the same time as qualifying, it makes me not wanna watch the game when half the team isn't gonna be there and of course the crew will have all of their regular amazing players except for Frankie, we just lost 4-2 and now we're supposed to play them with half the team gone, not cool. I think I love Bruce now for what he said, of course that all might change in a few weeks when I see what he did for the team for this next game.

Wow. I am usually against Bruce in a lot of his decisions. But he is 10000000% correct on all the issues he addresses (except maybe the US Open Cup, but as he said it's debatable).

MLS having games when the Nats are playing? Stupid. The MLS Cup final is schedule amonst National team qualifier matches! How stupid is the league?

All-Star Game? Most useless event in all sports. Take a stand, get RID of it. No one cares for these events anymore.

Why doesn't MLS take a week or two break during WC qualifying ?

Do you mean Copa Libertadores? I think MLS should absolutely try and participate in Copa Libertadores. It would make MLS clubs stronger by giving them true competition against clubs from proven leagues. The U.S. Open Cup is just testing against ourselves and the CONCACAF Champions Cup, well, teams don't seem to take that seriously.

I wonder what Bruce would say about MLS in Libertadores.

As for the article, I agree with 99.9 percent of what Bruce had to say. It is absolutely ridiculous, asinine and thoughtless of MLS to schedule matches when the national team plays qualifiers. Don't MLS people understand the world of soccer? What kind of a league plays crucial do-or-die matches while the national team plays for its World Cup lives AT THE SAME TIME?!?

Look south of the border. Mexico had to scramble to reschedule two qualifiers that were moved from their original dates. All they did was play a full slate of games midweek (7 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday) and they are doing that twice in the span of a month. They, like most of the rest of the world, understand the significance of qualifying.

As a fan, I'm choosing the national team over MLS. There would never be an occasion when it's the other way around. Just won't happen. Sad thing is, we shouldn't have to choose. This conflict should not exist. Maybe getting Jorge Vergara in the league will help that. At least he's got some soccer sense.

He might be right:
http://www.pga.com/rydercup/2004/us/history/past_teams.html

Apparently, we dominated in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. However, in the last 10 years the Europeans have been kicking our butts.

Regardless, I agree with Bruce. People in this country tend to be a bit unrealistic about US sports.

Bruce is right on every issue. Is it just a coincidence that the most exciting and skillful games are the last month of the season and the playoffs? The Fire went ten games without a win and are pretty much assured of a playoff spot. The allstar game is useless, who cares. The US Open Cup is not really that important. When you have postseason playoffs, the allure of the cup competition is lessened.

And of course we shouldn't be playing games on FIFA qualifying dates, but it will definitely affect attendence. Four or five weeks lost would have to be made up on midweek games.

MLS has been making the changes that have been needed in the past few years, since Garber took over, so let's hope they can keep it up.
