LIKED THE OLD MOVIE VICTORY BUT THE PROBLEM WITH SOCCER MOVIES
IS STAGING THE ACTION SHOTS AND THEY ALWAYS LOOK STAGED..
MICHAEL PALIN MADE A GREAT SHORT IN RIPING TALES ABOUT THE FAN
OF A LOSING TEAM GETTING THE OLD BOYS TOGETHER.. ONE MORE TIME
GREAT FUN..
It was Ripping Yarns and if IIRC correctly it was Barnstonworth United or some similar fictional team -- classic sketch tho'
Glad someone mentioned Gregory's Girl. :D

I still loved "Escape to Victory".
Recently "Goal" and "the game of their lives" (US Version) was out and they were good. "World cup: a captain's tale" was not bad. And "Shaolin Soccer" was funny.
"Goal" is first of a trilogy. The first movie is a rag to riches from Mexcio/USA to Newcastle. The second and third movies is the rise to superstardom and then a fall from grace and about representing Argentina at the recent World Cup and a comeback. "Goal" is the best modern movie yet. Throughly recommended.

The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick
Well, not really a "soccer movie" except at the beginning. But I love the movie.

Fever Pitch is crap, especially for all the Liverpool suppoters out there. I can not really say there are any classic footy movies out there, of course Escape to Victory has to rate number 1 because of the players that were in it, but then with Sly in goal it takes a big knock back
Aaaaheeeeeee:eek: If Fever Pitch revolved around the Kop..would you get it?
P.S. Good luck to the Red's this season..I always have respect for them.:)

Mean Machine for me, Victory was always a favorite of mine too, green street was a little corny in my opinion, and please who voted for Ladybugs?

I voted for Ladybugs. A great movie its not but its always makes me laugh every time I watch it. Im sure a lot of people think the jokes and gags are lame but I love them. Rodney Dangerfield is genius.

"Victory" is a great film which featured some of the greatest soccer players in the World, past or present! By far the best soccer film around.

I was just about to get up on my high horse again and quote from Fever Pitch when I remembered that there are 'rave' reviews of ......

"The Other Final" was a good one. I think that is what it was called. It was about the match between Bhutan and Montserrat, which was played on the same day as the Brasil-Germany Final of 02.

Nah
"Game of their lives" - US version is a recent DVD release. It is a true story drama about the USA team that caused the upset of beating England during the World Cup finals in Brazil on 29th June 1950. Those Italian immirgants were hardcases.
The other "Game of their lives" - original version is about some monks and soccer. I have not seen that one.
Now is "once in the lifetime" is the one with Pele teaching this kid how to do a bicycle kick?
Anyway, I just saw "the Mean Machine" starring Vinnie Jones who plays a fallen England Captain that ends up in prison. There is a build up to the ins and outs of prison pressure and money dealing riding on a Cons versus the Guards game. It was very good. Highly recommended for anyone to see. There was funny bits with the players and commentors and game was reasonable long and good enough piece of the movie. The character "Monk" was just hardcase in the game.
