I should add that, while most sports films are bad, or enjoyably bad, sports documentaries tend to be amazing. The aforementioned "The Game Of Their Lives" is a must-see for any fan or anyone interested in North Korea.
Like President Bush! ;)

A question: i recall reading a story about Robert Duval working on a film in Scotland, going to a Rangers(?) match, falling in love with soccer, and promptly signing on to direct, produce, and/or star in a film about underdogs in the Scottish FA Cup. That's the last I ever heard of it. Anyone ever catch this one?[/QUOTE]
Yeah, it wasn't bad. The movie had a weird charm. Ally McCoist on screen is also quite a sight to see :)

I go back further than most of you. Hot Shot was a movie in the 70's about a NASL young player who loses his way and has to go to Brazil to train with Pele and then come back to play in the US. Hokey, but fun, and it really shows you how far we have come.

The Goalkeeper's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0066773
Not that I'm convinced it's better than those three, but at least I've actually seen it.
A weird and weirdly entertaining Wim Wenders movie that opens with the title character getting ejected and ends with him sitting in the stands at a game in the hinterlands. In between, he strangles a woman (without apparent consequence) and goes back to his home town.

"A Shot At Glory" is a fantastic film...lets just say the ending would make it or break it, and it definitely made it.
I love "A shot at Glory". I created the entire Kilnockie team on Winning Eleven 7...yes...that's how big of a videogame/soccer/movie dork I am... :D

I must say that Escape to Victory was a good movie for it's time, and the cast of characters was also fun to watch. However, for me, the best football movie I've ever seen, hands down, is "Das Wunder von Bern."
I had some family members send me the DVD from Germany, and although I couldn't get it to play on my home theatre DVD player (due to the country coding), I did get my computer's DVD player to play it. My German is a little rusty, so fortunately I was able to view the movie dubbed in english.
The film is very well done and captures the essence of that time very well. I think that perhaps the film scored higher marks for me because it wasn't entirely just about football, but about a family's struggles during some very difficult times. The gentleman that portrayed Sepp Herberger did a fine job as well.
I would rate this movie as a definite must see * * * * stars :D .

Beside Victory which was very good (except some clumsy moments like Stallone's penalty), I remember 3 good movies I forgot the names but I will seek them because you have to see it:
- One was with Robert Carlyle, where he's a feeble coach in Manchester, coaching a young boy (looks like a small Rooney) dreaming of Manchester City.
- The other is also english in a prison, between the prisoneers and the prison staff. The game is very good to watch with classic european soccer songs.
- Last but not least, a french one, difficult to find but worth it: 1-2-3 0, a critical look on soccer agents in Italy and France, with Ronaldinho.

O My Freakin God.
I thought I was the only person who ever saw or heard about this movie. I watched one day 2 years ago on BlackStarz. I remember his dream was to play at Old Trafford. He had a baby with one girl but got a rich girl pregneant and his best friend got aids. The ending pissed me off because it ends with him going on a break away in the championship and just cuts off when he shoots. It then said go to yellowcard.com to find out what happend and I never did. Infact I think I'll check it out now.

Here is a summary of the movie from imdb.com, it was a psa from Zimbabwe
Summary: After school special from Zimbabwe
This cautionary tale from Zimbabwe was funded in part by the UK and US governments and is basically intended to warn Zimbabwean youth of the dangers of unprotected sex. It should be dull and preachy, but benefits from an earnest and attractive cast, especially Kasamba Mkumba and Leroy Gopal as the young star-crossed lovers. Football is only used metaphorically (the yellow card signifying a warning before you're sent off the field) and serves as bait to get the target audience interested. Nothing particularly new, but done extremely well.
here is the movies official website http://www.yellow-card.com/ and it doesn't say how the final game ended.
