I saw this movie on IFC, it was excellent. I'd have to rate it as one of my top three. I love this movie, Goal!, and Das Wunder von Bern is also an excellent movie.

Does Once In A Lifetime Count? That would be up there too.

Why does this film have two names? In Britain we say "Escape to Victory", in America it is just "Victory".

The flick's so nice they named it twice.

I was amazed when I got to watch Goal. It was even breathtaking in Goal II Living the Dream.
Got the chance to see the big stars play.
Can't wait for Goal III. It' s gonna be World Cup for Muñez.
:):):)

I love Fever Pitch. Gracie is a great film, imho. What's the deal with Goal II? When will it be released in Region 1 format???

You forgot Gracie, and Bend it Like Beckham. So I picked "other."

What about GOAL?
Got a good inspiring story to it...

I didn't mind it at all

Gregory's Girl has one of my favorite all-time lines:

"I'm in love. She's a girl."

I don't know whats worse: Elijah Wood acting like some hooligan despite him being a total ********** ("the Ring is too heavy for you to bear!" 10 minute pause...) or a movie about some illegal Mexican making it to the big-time while disguising his terrifying ailment (i don't want them to know i have asthma!).

haha, Agreed!
Elijah Wood = shit
Goal = shit

Victory showed that the US is great at producing goal keepers. I mean Hatch was right up there with Keller, Friedle and Howard.

The thing I liked best about Victory was it used huge names in soccer at that time, including Bobby Moore and and the late great Kaz Deyna. The had tha captain of the New York Cosmos, Warner Roth as the top Nazi player.
Plus Victory had that hot french babe.http://image.evene.fr/img/celeb/20260.jpg

Fever Pitch, without a doubt. It sums up what being a football fan is all about, putting everything in your life second to the team and living for Saturday.

By the way, all football hooligan films are crap. All of them. Even ID. Over-done, over-acted and all of them seem to be based on London teams. I'm not one for real football violence, but I can spot a half-arsed representation of it on film without much hassle.

Finally !!!....someone who really gets Fever Pitch!!
(even if it is a Jock/Taffy hybrid..;))

I guess it must have been kismet that I would be a Gooner.......
Nick Hornby was born about 11 months before me in the same town!
(though I'm not sure if he was born at Redhill General like myself)

Although I didn't live in the Thames valley as a teenager...I did live in South Hertfordshire....So that meant that I too, on the few occasions that I was 'allowed' to go to Arsenal by myself, had to take the train and the tube.
I would wear my DM's/Levi's/red&white Ben Sherman/red & white scarf......
....thought I was so hard !!
I love the movie...but those early days are scenes that I enjoy the most.

As for the hoolaginism....perhaps I just blanked it out, or managed to avoid it, there was a lot of it back then...I don't remember any really scary moments.....

It was many years later at Wembley when I took my sons to their first England game that I had my worst encounter with it.:(

[QUOTE=kraayzizou;3286632]"A Shot At Glory" is a fantastic film...lets just say the ending would make it or break it, and it definitely made it.[QUOTE]

Just to reiterate; I can't wait to see it on again.

.

I haven't seen the film but if it's half as good as the book, it'll be the best football film ever.

Either that or Soccer Dog: European Cup.
