Also starring - Shep Messing, Julio Mazzei (I guess as Cosmos), Mario Van Peebles
and Jimmy Smits as one of the opposing soccer players

The original Fever Pitch is the one I rented. Haven't seen the baseball version.
Just out of curiousity how does Glory fall short of history? I know absolutely nothing about Scottish football.
well, historically, my post was a mistake, and I meant to say victory...:o

This documentary about the German National team over the course of the 2006 world cup looks interesting... albeit in German
Then again I'm also probably going to watch the new Goal! movie when it comes out so I will admittingly take my creditability away :-P

I remember seeing the movie on France's 98 and 2000 winning teams. Very good film. However, I forget the name.
Also, a little more unrelated, Panorama's Hooligans. I must say that the BBC footage from both the streets and the games is truly great. Their cameras catch everything.
There's also this French movie, Didier, where a player transforms into a dog and wins the title for PSG (i think).

Well this thread has me baffled...
#2 Fever Pitch. For those of you who thought this was a film about the Red Sox, done by a guy who was a NY Met fan, then a NY Yankee fan, and then in a movie as a Red Sox fan -- as oposed to say using a real Red Sox fan who already lived that life, like Matt Damon or, more specifically, Ben Afleck -- you are wrong. It is actually a fiilm based on an autobiographical account of an Arsenal FC supporter, about a boy who grew up following Arsenal FC and meets the woman of his dreams in the middle of the teams dream run to their first title in 18 years. Yes that story lends itself better to the coincidental Red Sox curse breaking season, in the same year the film was being made. However, it is not just that season which you watch the film for. It is the passion for the sport you come to identify with.
Yes everyone who read the book will try to put their two cents in to try and get recognition for it. However, how many of them read the book in 2 hours? Get some perspective people! To suggest the movie ruined the book is rediculous. The book is still there, and in tact. However, for those of us who don't have a lot of time to spend reading every book ever written, the film does a very good job portraying the life of a die-hard soccer supporter. Give it up for the film. For presenting what it did in two hours, needing to spice up the love story as well to get the people in the seats, it still pulls it off nicely.
#1 (and way out in front) Victory.
I'm baffled too..
Fever Pitch gets only #2 in you ratings.!! ..
Great post..:)

Goal. We nicknamed the striker on our college team Munez in its honour :D

The Best Soccer Movie Is Goal

My choices are:
Goal
A Shot at Glory ( I love this movie, I've watched it several times. It's fun to watch Robert Duvall do a Scottish accent and act in this movie. Great actor.
Also included Michael Keaton.)
Victory (The book, Dynamo was much much better though)
Kicking and Screaming (Another with Robert Duvall):D Me and my kids liked it,
couple of good laughs. Unfortunately, the coffee part hits home with me.
I saw some of Fever Pitch (the book version) on a channel called IFC I think as I was trolling through. I liked what I saw of it.

Only little to choose in this poll.
For me "Fussball ist unser Leben" (Football* is our live)
is the best soccer movie because its about my favourite club FC Schalke 04.
*somewhere they call it soccer
In English my favourite is "Fever Pitch" no doubt.

Les Yeux dans les Bleus but it's about the 98 world cup.
Best fiction around football is - to me -another French film called "Coup de Tête" aka "Hothead". Patrick Dewaere, one of the best ever french actor plays in it. It's 1979. Patrick Dewaere has become famous with his part in the classic ********ed up movie "Les Valseuses" (aka Going Places) with a young Gerard Depardieu and Miou-Miou also starring.
You must see both films !

two links for more info :
COUP DE TETE --->http://imdb.com/title/tt0079002/
LES VALSEUSES--->http://imdb.com/title/tt0072353/
PS : the second one has NOTHING to do with football though, it's just sick and great !

Shaolin Soccer is great, without the excruciating American dubbing. Shaolin Soccer + Subtitles :)
Is Victory that American kid goes to Newcastle movie? It's not bad, I wasn't bored, but I didn't like the way they filmed action scenes at all. Always focused on the feet, or if the trick was very, very basic on the actor. Plus his bag of tricks was pretty limited, just reptition after repetition. Would have been better off getting an actor that could play.

I liked Green Street (Hooligans) the most. I really liked it, actually, even though they own the United firm.

FOOTBALL FACTORY is the best, its based more on the fans love of the game, well the hooligans anyway. 10/10
This was never released in the US, but I've been wanting to see it for some time.
My vote's for Green Street Hooligans, personally. Dougie Brimson's experience lends a good deal of credibility to the story.

I haven't seen the others yet, but I liked Goal. Even if the SE bus and the Washington Post guy thought it sucked and were ready to boot me for bringing it :D.
