I was wondering what everyone thought about the question ...

what is the best soccer ball?

I'm looking to purchase a quality high-end ball ... what do people think about the Adidas Fevernova Ball (2002 WC ball), the Adidas Roteiro ball (Euro 2004 ball), Adidas Finale (Champions League ball), the Nike Total 90 (Everything Else ball), the Puma MLS ball, or something cool that I might not have ever heard of? Thanks in advance ...

i have the roteiro and like it A LOT. granted, i havent played with the new CL ball but some have said that its even better. im not a big fan of nike balls.

the fevernova is really nice when u first get it but when its used then the quality goes down. i love the puma dimple balls they hold there shape and quality really well.

I have used all of the balls and i like the nike premier league one, but the best is definetly the puma dimple ball. It feels so good to kick. I got one from DC United and it has been nothing but exellent.

I've found that Adidas footballs are nice to play with if you don't hit the ball very hard but if you do like to propa belt it, i find the Nike balls better, because with the sponginess, it just flies over and it swerves so much, Keeper's nightmare i'd imagine.

I think that the middle of the range priced footballs are rubbish. They dont have any grip on the casing because the plastic the balls are coated in is too shiney and i find they loose there shape easily.

All of the balls that cost about £15.00 over here are crap. The total 90 ball, the champions league ball, The Fevernova etc. They are all poorly made, loose there shape and design too easily in my opinion.

I find the better balls the actual copies of the middle of the range ball. Such as the white fevernova balls. They have a fantastic grip on the casing which makes it like glue and is especially good for freestyle moves as the balls easier to spin and trap. And the casing is slightly padded. I find that they keep there design well too.

I do like the total 90 premier league ball. But you cant spend £65.00 on a football thats just going to get covered in mud!!

But i'd go with the fevernova at £7.00!

Here's a post that appeared on rec.sport.soccer during the Euro Cup. THe test was only for accuracy, nothing about touch or feel, but it does explain why some players were complaining about the ball:

*********************************************
According to a test carried out by a swiss consumer testing group
http://www.konsum.tv/
which consisted in using an automatic shooting machine (not sure this
is the proper name ;-) to shoot the ball through a sort of hula hoop
positionned first in the top right corner(10 shots) and then in the
bottom left corner(10 shots) of a goal. Here are the results:

1. "Total 90 aerow" von Nike / Preis: Fr. 160.-- / 11 Treffer
2. Nostalgieball von Sonnenleder / Preis: Fr. 200.-- / 8 Treffer
3. Mundial von Tramondi / Preis: Fr. 12.90 / 7 Treffer
4. Matchball von Tramondi / Preis: Fr. 90.-- / 7 Treffer
5. "Celerator Zero 4" von Puma / Preis: Fr. 150.-- / 6 Treffer
6. "Roteiro" von Adidas / Preis: Fr. 170.-- / 5 Treffer
7. Dunlop (Coop-Aktion) / Preis: Fr. 27.-- / 5 Treffer

Treffer means shots so the Nike ball went through the Hula Hoop 11
times out of 20. Prices are in Swiss Francs so to get Dollars or Euros
you would have to divide by about 1.5

In other words, at least as far as accuracy goes, the Roteireo pure m|&rda with a score of just 25%.

The T90 is the best but the best Adidas ball is the Champion's League ball...it has a great feel and it's not a balloon.

Thanks ... I was going to grab a Fevernova (for about $65 on eBay), however decided against it because of some bad reviews. I really like the Puma MLS ball, but I had never played with it ... some of you seem to like it, so it seems like a good choice for a good ball. Thanks again ... keep up the good work.

The Fevernova and the Roteiro are both great balls. I have the $20 version of both, and that is really all you need. The only other good ball that I have tried is the Total 90. And that was the actual ball, and not the replica. In my opinion, a $20 adidas is better than the actual total 90. The Fevernova is the better of the two, and has better air retension. A $90 ball won't improve your game, and is a waste of money to me.

I like the Fevernova the best, but went for a change of ball, and bought a nike ball. They're nice but i find they go flat after about a day or so, i don't know why though.
Also another thing that bugs me about Nike balls is they lose al their graphics after a bought a day and a half which really pisses me off, because then you're left with an ugly ball, rather than with the Fevernova it never did.

Has anyone ever seen this ball before? Is it the actual ball that Italy uses for qualifying? Is this the same ball that is used for the MLS match ball? Thanks.
