Hello.

Thank you for your interest in my collection.

The guidelines for the shirts I am looking for are relatively simple. First, any shirts should be, at least, official replicas. I also accept player issue and game-worn shirts. If the team has a shirt sponsor, like Vodafone for Man U and countless others, I would want the sponsored version of the shirt. I generally tend to be reluctant to obtain unsponsored shirts, unless desperate or if the team plays in unsponsored shirts, like Barcelona. The shirts should be in very good condition, in other words, all seams intact with very few minor bobbles, clicks, and/or pulls. The size of the shirt should be L, XL or XXL. I have a working collection, so to speak. Or in other words, I wear them. I am looking for club, not national, team shirts from the top leagues in FIFA-recognised countries that I do not already have a shirt from. You can either look at what I already have posted and see what I lack, or I will be posting a list of countries I need within the next few days.

The other kind of shirt I am interested in is the type of shirt with a lot of flashes. This is a much more nebulous catagory, I realize. I will try to provide links to examples of each of the shirts that display one or more of the characteristics that attract me to a jersey.

Unique design. Some teams incorporate a specific complex design into their jersey each year:

http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/store/product_list.jsp?id=672

Notice the map motif that is featured every year. This is not a shirt design that is reproduced for any other team in the world.

The 1999 through 2001 S-Pulse jerseys also feature another thing I look for. Striking color and print pattern. I like "ugly" shirts. I like shirts that grab your eyeballs and won't let go. Here's some other examples of that:

http://www.footballnotmuggybonehead.com/shirtgallery/uefa/england/arsenal/arsenal90.html

Note the 91-93 Away jersey and the 96-98 Away jersey. Loud and provocative designs. You either love 'em or hate 'em.

The above link also provides a fine example of the next thing I find interesting in a shirt. Notice that in the 96-97 Away jersey and the 96-98 Home jersey, an alternate club crest is visible in the weave of the jersey. This is the kind of subtlety of design that no other jersey in any other sport possesses. Designs in the weave are a plus to any jersey, for me. If the design is specific to the club, even better. Which brings me to the next feature I look for in a jersey:

http://www.footballnotmuggybonehead.com/shirtgallery/uefa/england/manchesterunited/manchesterunited90.html

Notice on the 1996 Special Edition red shirt how the name of their stadium, "Old Trafford", is subliminated into the shirt. Look at the bottom of the shirt. The nickname of the stadium, "Theater Of Dreams", is also subliminated. These provide extra information about the club. Some shirts have pictures of their stadiums or cities subliminated into the shirt; i.e. 02-03 Santiago Wanderers Home jersey (which you'll find at soccerplus.net). Some will have the nickname of the club or it's fans printed on the back. Some special edition or anniversary shirts are good for that also.

In life, I am attracted to things which, on the surface, are simple, but upon further examination, provide a surprising amount of complexity. A soccer shirt can be just a soccer shirt. And, it can be a representation of the fashion style of it's time. And, it can be a spur to motivate someone to learn about the sport it's worn for, the team that wears it, the company that sponsors it, and the town or city or country they play for.

I hope to hear from others as to what motivates them to collect jerseys and what they look for in a jersey. I also hope to find some folks who are interested in trading shirts or information. I have located plenty of webstores, plus sites devoted to collections and collecting. I'll be happy to share them with anyone who is interested.

Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of jerseys...the thrill of an African club kit... the agony of a split seam...the human drama of soccer shirt collecting... this is

Hello, meistermls

Both the Metrostars and the Dallas Burn auction off autographed gear including, sometimes, game-worn jerseys. Check their official sites for details. I know that the Burn are auctioning a 2003 Jeff Cassar GK jersey right now.

Going once, going twice, I remain
