It doesn't please me to write this post but we've gotten to the point where the only reason people go stand in 137 anymore is so that their friends from Local Area High School can see their new Hollister & Co. baby mini tee.

I realize that the blockheads were away last weekend (probably in North Carolina) and that they have integrated into the section fantastically. But last Saturday it was just myself and about six other semi-recognizable faces trying to do the best we could. ********, even Kryptonite wasn't there.

So where the hell is everybody? We're in first place. We're playing attractive soccer, and there's a lot to sing about. And yet, people have found other seats or would rather just smoke up near the railing. I understand that the old crew has dissipated into whatever you're all doing now. Like child rearing. Or, "leading productive lives."

But what is the reason for such a mass exodus of the old guard from 137?

So can I send my kid over there during the Chicago match? Also, would this service be free?

I was in North Carolina. Mike and Andrew were there as well.

It seems that earlier in the year when Zak was there, we had a leadership voice, one to start chants and all that. Whoever's taken over that (Mike, Andrew?) hasn't been doing a bad job, IMO. But I haven't seen Zak in 137 in a while. Eggy, hangthadj and 3stripe also have gone AWOL for the most part. I saw hang in 137 a few games back, but 3stripe seems to be totally gone.

And yeah, it's gonna be hard to start anything if the older side of the group keeps moving on to other things. But what can we do about that?

I'll be there for the final 2 games and playoff games.

You can count on three-stripe not being there again. Probably ever.

I'm in school and weekends are usually limited.

We were indeed in Raleigh for the OSU/NCSU game. My group will be back this Sat. though, about 10 strong. Drum will be there, along with Crew and V-Army flags on flagpole. It's the last game we can attend before, hopefully, playoffs.

The future of V-Army as a group and cheering section does look very bleak, but we (the ones who still care and chant all game long) need to try to keep up the spirits.

its tough man. people move away, you gotta find the bodies to fill them. i live in delaware now and so that makes it kinda hard to make it to games esp with the schedule ive got, but ill agree. a few of the games ive been to this season, i look around and its like "wow, who are these [few] people?".

Can I send Lefty over? He's in 11th grade, not tenth, and he's pretty freakin hard core. I raised him right: hate DC is his credo.

Of course he'll have to bring his girl. Unfortunately, they'll likely spend all their time groping each other like they do in my basement, so maybe that's a bad idea.

I attribute this mostly to Crew HQ not marketing directly towards OSU students. I mean really, how hard is it to sell a ticket, beer, and dog all for 15 bucks and throw them up in the upper deck section or something. They'll eventually wander around and find what suits them best.

I had no idea it was that bad.

Yes, absolutely. At that age and with that behavior-pattern he'll fit right in. I'm telling you, 137 is a mixer for teenagers now.

Maybe he'll actually care enough to watch the game and sign along from time to time.

Actually, someone has done a pretty good job of this (not necessarily the Crew HQ). If you're a student you can get an Explore Columbus game pack for $10. You get a ticket voucher, a mail in voucher for a free t-shirt, and a $5 voucher at the concession stand. It's really a fantastic deal, but you have to have a BuckID.

I live in Cincinnati now, so I know that it's difficult when you move farther away to get to games. I feel bad, because I started this thread and now I realize I'll have to miss Saturday's game. I haven't heard from Zak though, where's he been sitting? And vestfalls? And Drunk Blake? And Carson Daly? And the Hippie (will he ever leave indy)? And what did happen with Katharine (I didn't know that you could divorce soccer teams)?

I think the bigger problem for OSU student is getting to and from the game.

I have a cousin who is a student at OSU and wants to attend every home Crew game, he doesn't have a car and lives on campus, therefore whenever he wants to go I gotta go and pick him up and bring him to/from the stadium because COTA doesn't have a route that goes to/from the stadium from the campus area.

Yeah, if cota had their act together, they could have a bus or 2 at the oval about 2 hours before kickoff. Drop people off at CCS, and take them back to the oval 30-60 minutes after the final whistle.

Hell, they do that park and ride for OSU games, it'd be exactly that in reverse.

And if someone knows, what did happen to 3stripe? I'd take a guess, but i'd be way the hell off base.

I think we'll survive, but it'll just be a different bunch of faces.

Here is an article from The Lantern that seems appropriate for this thread.

I'm sure everyone out there is expecting me to eviscerate Jim Tressel for not ending up 3-0 with enough authority. But seriously, what's the point? This is how we win folks; I'm not going sit here and criticize Tressel for winning. Wait for Purdue to hammer the Buckeyes - and the Boilermakers will - then I will let some of this pent-up aggravation out.

Instead, I am going to talk about Columbus' hottest and most surprising team: the Columbus Crew.
