I remember reading an article some time ago regarding ex-Liverpool player Craig Johnston's new design concet, the Pig.

For those not in the know, Craig Johnston is the man behind the predator vamps. He designed them in order to improve swerve, control, power yada yada yada. You can see, if you have an early pair of predators, the name JOHNSTON on the vamps, i think on the predator touch and predator rapier.

anyway, back to the pig: it is based on the same priciple --> rubber 'glove' for your boot with 'spikes' on it to help you swerve and bend the ball. the article i read said that it would cosst 20 not-so-great british pounds, undercutting the preds by about 100 (depending whther you buy in shops or off ebay :D ). the article also said that players would be wearing and testing it during euro 2004.

My querie is, if Mr. Craig Johnston is reading.... WHERE IS IT?! i was hoping to see someone wearing it during the tournament --> without success, and am interested to see hoe Mr. Johnstone fairs, given that, since in effect he made the pred, what the Pig hold in it's locker.

will it be oblivion for Craig in the shadow of the predator for the rest of his life or (sorry for the pun) will the Pig 'save his bacon'? :(

Keep me posted people!!!!!!!!

It was a shoe, or something you slip on over the shoe like a Sweet Spot?

confused:
After logging on to DJ5sports and reading there history, I was amazed to find out that it wasn't Craig Johnston that was the first to market a soccer boot with rubber skill assistance pads incorporated named the EAGLE.
The original 'Eagle" football boot was designed, way back in 1983, by Jack Danks.
Having recently lost his job at the Audio firm BSR, Jack sank all his redundancy
money into developing and manufacturing the "Eagle" boot.

Jack dreamed up the original idea, some four years earlier, of developing a type of
rubber to use in the instep and outside of the boot. After developing and testing the design
it was submitted to and approved by C.F.C Hughes, the Assistant National Coach at
the FA. The design was patented and in 1984 the Eagle boot was being sold through the
Grattan Mail Order catalogue.

: confused, tell me about it. Researching this inventors history, has brought up some interesting facts. In the early 90s jack offered his boot to several large companies including Adidas, along with graphic designs of a sleeve that can be detachable from the boot, looking at this design it could easily be mistaken for Craig Johnston PIG.
Adidas had all this information about a boot with rubber skill assistance pads and the detachable sleeve idea a couple of years before Craig Johnston Knock on Adidas door with he's Predator.
confused, tell me about it. Why didn't Adidas say to him your a bit late with that old son?

Unsure of that, but I can understand why FIFA wouldn't approve of them by just looking at them (though the feel may actually be quite different). I don't like 'em very much at all though.

If the spikes are just rubber i cant see them hurting anyone? I suppose it would hurt a bit if you got kicked and got some kind of 'rubber burn' but i cant see them causing any serious injury.

I dont really like them. I think its taking the whole rubber on boots a bit too far. I think his best idea was the predator and he's wishing he hadnt lost or sold the rights to Adidas because the first few designs of predators actually had 'Johnson' printed into the rubber on the preds.

I remember watching a programme about him making his first pair of predators. He's a very clever man and moulded the predator design (that was used on the boots) from a tyre in his garage and stuck it on some trainers.

But the pig ..... hmmmmm not too sure on this one!

I was thinking that too. But if they're just rubber, then they'd probably wear off pretty fast anyways so it seems rather pointless.

Having Read The Comments That You Have All Made Regarding The Adidas 'preditor' And 'the Pig' And The Comments Made Regarding A Company Called Dj-5 Sports Hopefully It Has Come To Your Attention That The 'predator' Was Not The First Boot To Incorporate Rubber In To Their Boots But Infact The 'eagle' Was, It Was Manufactured And Sold In The Uk Back In The 1980's And The First Football Boot To Incorporate 'rubber Skill Assistance Pads' In To Their Design, Which Improves Ball Control Giving A Player The Ability To Bend And Swerve The Ball.

Though The Manufacturers Of This Boot Cease Trading The Designer Continued To Try To Find Another Manufacturer And Approached Adidas And Such Companies As Nike, Umbro And Many More Who Back Then In The 80's Didn't Think It Would Be A Marketable Product........! A Detachable Sleeve Idea [which Craig Johnston Has Now Claimed To Have Invented And Be Manufacturing] Was Also Offered But Retailers Thought That This Would Be Bad For Business As This Product Could Possible Prolong The Life Of Any Football Boot........ Meaning Less Sales.

Anyway Why Pay £20.00 For A Detachable Sleeve When You Can Get A Pair Of Football Boots Which Do The Same Thing For As Little As £14.99........interested Please Read On!!!. Having No Joy With Finding A Manufacturer The Designer Decided To Have The Boot Manufactured Himself And In 2003 The 'eagle' Football Boot Was Reserected From The Ashes' And Reborn As The 'pheonix'.

Now In 2004, The Dj-5 Phoenix And The Dj-5 Stealth Football Boots Are Now On Sale Worldwide Through E-bay And On-line At A Remarkable Price Of Only £14.99 + P & P. .............a Price Everyone Can Afford Which Was What The Designer Was Inspired By And Intended When He First Came Up With The Idea..................of Course Don't Take My Word For It.....................check It Out And While Your At It Read The Feedback From Customers Who Have Bought Them...................sure To Impress Even The Sceptics!!!!
