Considering all of you out there have seen or at least heard, Champions League competition began for Madrid, and Liverpool.
Let me begin, I recall Owen stating he wanted to play in the CL, and get some "needed" playing time against some of the best. So he left Liverpool.
Now weeks later, Madrid starts Raul who hasn't been effective since last January in place of Owen, and his team goes down 3-0, then not to far from Germany, Liverpool with Cisse and Baros sink AS Monaco.
Considering this isn't a fluke, and Liverpools goes at least to the quarterfinals, "Would us the fans want Owen back, should he decide at the end of the season that he made a mistake?"

I wouldn't even want to take him back no matter what the circumstances with both teams. He chose to leave, and decided that LFC was not quality enough, so let him stay in Madrid and play in the shadows of Raul.

It's only one match guys...let's not start talking about quarterfinals.
And no, we don't want Owen back.

I would be more than happy to have him come back on a free transfer.

And if you don't want him back, is it due to skill (or lack of) or principle?

Principle...noone's bigger than the club and he treated us like chumps. ******** him. He's gone and should never return.

True.
And we don't want players who are at Liverpool because they weren't good enough elsewhere. We want players who want to be at Anfield no matter what.
Stevie had interest from Chelsea, and his agent could have sent feelers out to big European clubs, but he picked Liverpool over all else - that's the kind of player I want wearing the red shirt.
Honestly, I'm not that bitter about Mikey. He always had intensions of moving to the continent and I wasn't all that upset or surprised about the move (though the timing could have been a whole lot better). All in all, I'm happy for him and he'll get his opportunities at Bernabau.

I'm not surprised hee went, either, but I was suprised in the manner that it was done.

I am very disgusted by Owen's agent and only marginally less disappointed in Mikey. I wish that he had seen us done better by Real Madrid in terms of a more equitable fee/compensation for his transfer.
By the same token - I think that we are better off with the side that we have now. People are saying they bet Mikey would rather be back at 'Pool this year as he might have a greater opportunity to play Champions' League with 'Pool as opposed to Real Madrid (where he is definitely second or third choice).
Possibly, but I don't see him dislodging Cisse or Baros at the moment. Both have been on better form than him for some time. He may have been sitting on the bench for us, as well. Also, now that Zidane is injured, we might see Raul move back into midfield and open up a slot for Mikey. But if I were Comacho, I would prefer Morientes to Mikey anyway. I don't think that Real Madrid is the side for Owen. I think an Italian club such as Juventus would have been a better option. He would definitely find the service he would need from the players at the top Italian sides and the pace of the game would allow him to pick and choose the spots when he would need to explode, now that his pace and acceleration are not as reliable as they once were.
On the whole:
I like the way that our side links up now that we have two all-around central midfielders and better linking play between the attack and midfield through the secondary striker. Our wingers have been playing more reliably, although Kewell has not totally adjusted to his role. Finally, (Arsenal being the exception), the movement away from explosive strikers at big clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United means that we match up better than ever, even with our (still) slow-footed defense. Ultimately this will be (ahem) our achilles heel, but I think we will do very well in European competition and as soon as our finishing is properly calibrated - I think we will be scoring enough goals to offset the crappy counterattacking goals that we give up to players such as Anelka, Boa Morte, Bent, Wright-Phillips, etc.

Owen hasn't been the 'Owen' everyone thinks about when they hear his name for a long time. His pace and acceleration are no longer there. That said, he is still a good striker. However, he thought he was too good for Liverpool and the manner in which he left was no amicable, so no I don't want to see him back in Liverpool.
