hey everyone.this is a topic i havent seen on the metro board ao i wanted to see how people around here felt about this. Prefer GolTV and its coverage of LaLiga,Italian soccer,Uefa, some latin america or prefer FSW and its Bundesliga, minimal MLS coverage, copa libertadores. if i left out or got any info wrong, i'm sorry and feel free to correct me. lets hear those opinions and whether yous think both channels should merge to show a REAL SOCCER CHANNEL with nonstop action and no reruns.

GolTV means I'd need to get a digital box which would mean that I'd actually have to pay for pay-per-view events... I'm fine with FoxSportsWorld and FoxSports en Espanol.

Fox Espanol is the best.
I like the matches on Gol TV as well, but the studio shows are unbearable with the terrible dubbing they do.
FSW is just EPL tv, which is cool if you love the EPL, but I don't.

And FSW en Espanol is MFL and Argentina TV. The only times I've ever watched a Brazilian game if its a Copa Sudamerica or Copa Libertadores. Their commentary of MLS and the few EPL games are horrible.

Now that I don't have enough money to get Dish Network I miss Goltv more than FSW, so I like GOLtv more with their coverage of La Liga and Serie A. I miss the EPL too. I only get the occasional MLS or Champions league games they show on ESPN2 now, it sucks.

FSW:
* MLS, EPL, French League 1, Bundesliga, Argentina's top league, Brazil's top league, USL, some US and English WCQ.
FSWE:
* MLS, EPL, Argentina's top league, Brazil's top league, Copa Sudamericana, Copa Libertadores, Mexican League.
Gol TV:
* Serie A, La Liga, League matches from Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador; the US Open Cup final; early-round UEFA Cup ties; UEFA Champions League qualifiers; South American WCQ qualifying; major international friendlies; preseason tournaments.
Take your pick.

I am going with both right now, but if I had to pick I would no doubtedly take FSW. I like the EPL much better than any other league. In addition, the FSW Report and Dream Team are fun to watch as well. It all depends on what your preferences are though.

How do you get Fox Sports World without a digital box?

<ugh>liking Dream Team speaks for itself, guess you don't get enough of East Enders re-runs on PBS. Skull numbingly BAD.
Being force fed mass quantities of
Max Bray-tos is an Abu Graib worthy atrocity on the ears.
For the fella who started this thread, about 35% of FSW programming is NOT soccer. They show darts, rugby, aussie rules and at least 4-5 hours of paid programming EVERY day.
Gol TV is 100% footy, and the dubbing on spanish language broadcasts is actually a very nice bone thrown to the majority culture in the country that it calls home (something other U.S.-based spanish lang. channels that show soccer have chickenheartedly avoided).
And in regards to Serie A and La Liga games, Gol simply piggybacks the live British commentary feeds, so you get in stadium play-by-play from veteran soccer broadcasters, not shrill west coast wannabees yelling at a fuzzy monitor of a game from 1000's of miles away.
Best of all you completely avoid a cynical, Premiere League obsessed, Rupert Murdoch cash cow. Just look at the Gol TV sked for the current week and tell me they aren't more committed to the beautiful game:

You would have to be insane to say GolTV is better if you only speak english. I don't speak spanish so I can't give a fair comparison between the two for you guys. But EPL, Bundesliga, and MLS is good. However I do wish FSW had Serie A and/or LaLiga to go with it, but the FSW report is great!

For the love of God, why?
The one place where Amerk soccer is still stuck in the dark ages of 1989 is in television production. Sure, once the FSW feed switches to the Sky telecast, at least THEN, the head and eye aches subside. But due to lack of competition or ratings fueled rivalries, there is no need for MLS or FSW to improve or upgrade their broadcast production, much like the soccer reporting racket, we are meant to feel grateful that they bother at all.
I'd rather listen to Herve Villechez, lungs fulla helium, nostrils fulla crank, and expectorating fried bologna, announce matches in max vol. Spanish w/ Dolby Digital surround than hear one more peep from Bray-tos, EVER.
I have to put duct tape over Wheelock's protruding, fish eyed, stroked-out visage whenever MLS THWAP is on my set (just ask Da Flip or Jamison).
And I can't say I get too stiff hearing Canadian's butcher the accent on my north american version of the language. "Shed-yool" my ass
And, darts....DARTS.
How does Gol TV having Ray Hudson and Britain's Channel 4 pros doing live european matches 5 to six times each week make it tough on yer gringo ears?
I'm stunned. Surely you need to switch your SAP function to english.

I hath seen the duct tape, and it was massive.
I like FSW for the games, but I can do without Bretos over-pronouncing every name in Europe. Just like Jonny Miller (ESPN) over hispanizing all of the latin names in MLB, it's just annoying. The Canadians don't bother me, mostly because they are often enough surrounded by Bobby McMahon, who is great. I don't have goltv, but I will get it when it's available to me.
As for brits, I would listen to them 800 times over before hacks like Jack Edwards, Rob Stone, Bretos, etc. Bretos especially tries to make himself more important than the game, and that sucks. If I suddenly became owner of an MLS team, you'd get Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth- ESPN's Champions League Duo- doing MLS games too.
It's about knowing the game and calling it right, not about the accent.

The Brit announcers tend to be knowledgeable but they lack enthusiasm. That is one thing I like about Bretos, his enthusiasm; I expecially like his GOOOOOL... call during Argentine League games.
The calm British style IMHO is not really an American style of announcing. Hockey, basketball, football and baseball sportcasters all have more enthusiasm than many of the English speaking soccer commentators on American TV.
Soccer is a low scoring game and depends much on atmosphere to make it watchable as a spectator sport. Having commentators who act like they are watching a golf match, make the games unappealing at times, especially to a fairweather soccer fan or someone skimming through the channels. But like I said earlier, many of the Brit commentators are very knowledgeable, and some of them show much enthusiasm and are fun to listen to.
Although, the guy who does the CL games on ESPN 2 is boring and makes the games dull. What's his name, Mike Hill? I miss JP Dellacamera.
