UTAH SOCCER FOUNDER DAVE CHECKETTS TO MAKE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT ON WEDNESDAY CONFERENCE CALL
NEW YORK (Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004) – ****** David W. Checketts, Founder and Chairman of Sports Capital Partners LLC, will participate in a national media teleconference call beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET (12:00 noon MT) to make a major announcement regarding the Utah Major League Soccer organization, which kicks off MLS play in April 2005. Media members can dial-in at 1-800-268-8047 to participate, while a live feed of the teleconference will also be available on the League’s official web site (www.MLSnet.com).

I am pretty sure that at least part of the press conference will be the naming of the new GM (former asst GM with the Fire).

How about SLC Young Boys or SLC Old Boys, these names are a take off a Swiss and Argentine team. Those are cool names.

Is there any 'strong' notions of what the name will be? In Dallas, everybody pretty much knew that FC Dallas would replace the Burn well before it was announced. Is that the case here.... if so, whats the name?

Now. . when you say a "Real" SSS, are you saying you hope it's a "Rey-al" SSS or a "Reel" SSS. It's so hard to tell these days.

I don't care what they announce. Whatever it is, most people will post in this forum complaining about how terrible the name is, the thread will run into about 20 pages, people won't read the posts, they'll just parrot what's already been said making it a complete waste of time for anybody to even glance at it once a week.

The name Real Salt Lake is so bad that I'm beginning to believe it can't NOT happen... it's like some unstoppable, crappy twist of fate - nothing we do will prevent the cosmos from dooming us with that name.
It's like when two really beautiful people have a child and it's destined to be beautiful - except the opposite...
(I think I may actually be cracking.)

REAL salt lake............c'mon if they name your team you would be the worst attempt of name biting this side of DALLAS
First of all your in USA, there is no royalty here, in case you didn't know REAL stands for ROYAL, as in ROYAL MADRID, the ROYAL FAMILY and such.....they have kings and queens across the pond not here. Real is a spanish word not english, its like calling soccer, football (this isn't england). It would negate the whole american soccer thing we have been trying to promote and pursue for a couple of years here. Its bad enough we now have the CHIV-ASSes in the league now you guys are satisfied with giving your team a spanish name. I was excited that you guys were getting a team but now lets just hope you guys don't ruin it with that name.

Apperantly you have not read any of the threads in the SLC Club house section of BS. Anyway, I think this is more then an announcement of the GM since that seems to have been announced already, and he has already announced a new hire.

I wonder if they used the whole "Real" thing as a ploy to stay in the news the last few weeks...all you have to do is say you have had meetings with Real Madrid about some kind of partnership and it will get you some news coverage...and with everyone pretty much despising the name, they announce something that triggers a good response...then...then...then again, could they really have any cleverness at all...
