Am i the only one who thinks brandishing a yellow card for excessive celebration is absurd>???? is it the same as a bone crunching tackle in the midfield?? i mean, cahill getting sent off for takin his shirt over his head got him sent off.... wtf is that???? the FA banned Titi from using messages under his shirt which i thought was absurd as well.... when he scored that cracker which beat manyoo "jerome, c'est pour toi!" was pure quality....
I wish someone would look into this and not be so ********ing petty, this is a game afterall....

I agree Phishy. I don't think there should be cards handed out for celebration. Someone has scored a goal for pete's sake. However, I personally think that rather than carding for taking off your shirt, there should be cards given out for everytime Hasselbaink does that ridiculous dance-what is it 1985 or something......;)

I'm 100% with you on this one, phishy. It is pretty f'ing ridiculous. It's not like they're holding up the game for an extended period of time, or reaching behind the corner flag for a cell phone to "phone in" their celebration... ;)
These guys are playing at the highest level of a sport, so they should be able to display some serious emotion if the situation calls for it.

somebody in the n.ireland/wales game... got carded for kicking the corner flag after scoring, then saying F YOO to the crowd... 2 yellows and a sending off... actually, it was tonights ref.... GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK!!!! these guys are passionate about this game (like the fans).. some leniancy should be given! i loved it when henry ran the entire length of the pitch and slid right in front of the sperz supporters section after scoring... saying UP YOURS!!! quality... and no card was issued btw~

I think the spirit of the rule is to not rile up the opponents supporters section so as to minimize any post game hooliganism. Just over reaction, as always.
BTW, phishy, my favorite moment of last year was when PV4 scored against Chelski at Stamford Bridge. Paddy ran to the corner and a Chelski guy right in the front row stood up and gave him the finger. The look on this guy's face was priceless, as you could tell that he knew the bottom was about to fall out again...(and, before you guys from that Anglo/Bolshevik club jump all over me, I know you won in the CL)

If "over-exuberant" celebrations were dealt with as harshly as they are now in the past then we would have been deprived of many moments of hilarity/madness when Ian Wright used to score. He always had a top quality celebration waiting for yet another goal. Why are FIFA trying to ban these celebrations? Do they want to make football games into a sterile, joyless occasions where peiople turn up to be "entertained" rather than being part of the atmosphere? I can assure them that there would be far fewer supporters willing to shell out money to watch (in person and on TV) if that were the case. Sepp Blatter just needs to have something to get him into the news at the start of each season, last year it was buggering about with the offside rule, this year it's goal celebrations. I'm not quite sure who said it, but they were right in saying that those who seek these positions of power are the least well suited to them.

I think it's crazy not to let them celebrate after scoring a goal. I would be pulling my pants off along with my shirt and parading around if I scored. Quite and ugly site, but maybe not so bad compared to that goofy picture they were calling Coach :D
I think going up to the opposing crowd and taunting them or flipping them off is wrong, but just celebrating by pulling your shirt off or having a gang bang in the corner, what's wrong with that.

LOL :D
BTW: I also agree. I see no harm in having a message on an undershirt. Wrights shirt probably sticks out the most in my mind.

However, anyone have video footage of what shall not be said again b/c of the little kids on the board? ;) 'Cause that is a celebration that might be worth seeing!

Perhaps he was referencing the goal celebration at Seville when Reyes scored and one of his teammates, well, bit him in that most sensitive of areas...

The only thing that would make that really gross is if the perpetrator was ugly.......if he was cute well ok I can live with that!

You might be one of the very few on here. I think most of us would have sympathy pains.
And yes this is an absolutely ridiculous rule. Incidentally that's the case for many of the rules FIFA has come up with since Blatter became president. Blatter out, fun in, please!
