Brian Carroll and Kevin Payne cheat like . . . 16 under my ass!
Nellie was fun to golf with - interesting comments on his contract situation. He get hit one bad ass approach shot with his irons.
And the biggest surprise was that I walked away from an auction empty handed
Actually best news was that it raised over $50K

Its getting to the point where I have everything and the vacations are a little tough to bid on with a 7 month old baby.
Had a Sanneh jersey, a DMB fire jersey (have one), a Donovan jersey (have one), a signed All-Star jersey (black marker on a dark blue jersey - ugh), a few signed balls. I put in a bid for the '04 AS game East Conf signed ball but lost. They also had a nice WCQ package which had a nice USMNT bag, two tickets, and some other things but I already have 40 tickets so I don't need anymore tickets.
In other news - Rimando had the opening bid on a Shaq signed basketball.

Here's a little recap of our group, the SE's, who had Mike Petke. We had an added bonus of having John Harkes in front of us. Petke can crush a ball when he gets all of it. On one hole Mike hit it 342 yards and the ball came to rest in the fairway. Unfortunately it wasn't on the long drive hole (#10) but it was an impressive whack. Mark Simpson eventually won long drive.
There was a chance to win a Honda Element for a hole in one but I decided I didn't want the tax liability, so I hit it short. (Not really but it sounds better than I hit a crappy six iron and choked)
On the 18th green as we were hitting out second shot, Harkes laid on his back over the hole waiting for Petke to hit him. He came up short of the green but seeing Harkes laying down covering the family jewels waiting for Petke to hit was funny.
We finished up with a 2 under 69, no where near the winning score of 56. I think Brian Carroll's group won. Tino's group had a 57. Mark Simpson's group ended up 4th I think with 61. Everyone in the group contributed so it was a good team effort even though we didn't win.
Nice to see the Commish travel down for the event. It was nicely done.
Props to DCU's staff. 50k raised is very impressive!
(I thought the big truck parked next to my car was JH6's for his auction haul. He did donate a couple Ravens football tix though, which was a nice gesture)

Brian Carroll and Kevin Payne cheat like . . . 16 under my ass!
We played behind Payne's group. We had a guy in our foursome who was hitting 320-350 and we were on in 2 on every hole. We kept score fairly and finished with a 67 (couldn't sink a 12 foot putt to save our lives). Payne's group was always 50-100 yards shorter that us and we saw them chipping from around the green on at least 5-6 greens and 2 putting many times. It is incredible that they were 11 strokes better than us.
Our guy, Tom Soehn, was a great guy. He confirmed many generally held beliefs about some ex-players. Good news is that he said Santino has his head on pretty straight now, if he could only avoid the injury bug.

i played in front of Carroll's group and they were playing extremely well--one of them even hit my cart on a drive on 12. they seemed to get on in one or two each time and had no problems putting.
i think for the 3rd year in a row i was the worst golfer in the tourney.

Ahhh - nothing can top the first hole the first year for my brother. He was nervous as hell playing with jason kreis. There were two trees off to the left no more than 15 ft away. He swung drove it dead left - hit the first tree - bounced back hit the other tree - then bounced back and hit the first tree again - all in the air.
The third hole he got so far under the ball it actually went backwards. He wasn't happy but the rest of us got a good laugh.

Good golfers keep track of the number of strokes taken. Bad golfers keep track of the number of balls lost. R&B keeps track of the number of clubs broken. I keep track of the number of beers had.

just a guess, but it may have been something told in confidence amongst fans playing a game of golf and he might not want info pasted all over the internet.
having said that, i'm curious too, so if you think he wouldn't mind PLEASE tell us.... ;)
