So the tilte is a rip off and props are in order but lord knows it makes perfect sense. :)

Mr Alecko Eskandarian wins Player of the Week (http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20040913&content_id=14357&vkey=news_dcu&fext=.jsp&team=dcu) ....again!

Good for you Esky!

I would have thought Moreno would get it, but what the hay. I'll raise my beer mug anytime a DC player gets it. ;)

Moreno, Eskandarian, Adu…the irony of singling out one player’s effort in a team sport.

In response to Voyager.

Good points but I think theyn like to award it to goal scoreres and not assists. Jaime is now tied for leagues lead in assists, and is deserved of this award as well. He finished a close second, so says the article. Having two DC United players up top this week is always nice.

And we didn't have to stuff a ballot box for it either! :D

I understand what you are saying but in all honestly it does sometimes take a few players and the skill of one or two to pull a team into a winning position. I mean we have lots of great players but not all of them shine for the team every match and several of them were not on point Saturday, luckily Esky and Moreno were. Thus, they get the top two honors.

Roger that!
I thought Esky had a great game, no question. I think he was positioned perfectly for both goals, which is an absolute necessity. However I prefer to think that the performance of Moreno and his ability to find that player at the right moment is more deserving.
But, as I said before, I'll raise my glass to both of them for a job well done!! :D

I think the hype Esky has been getting with all of his GOTW and now Player of the Week, is well deserved. Not to say Moreno doesn't deserve credit for all the assists, but it's the points on the scoreboard that count most. Esky has been a godsend for a team that hasn't been able to finish.

Yes I agree, but going further to say the pairing of Moreno and Esky is coming to fruition and it hopefully will be what puts up and gets us into the playoffs with confidence. As demonstrated in the past three weeks. Esky and Moreno is a must have for every match.

That reminds me, I remember walking out of RFK on opening day thinking to myself that despite all the hype about Freddy, the real story of the year was going to be Eskandarian’s break out.

Yeah he definitely started the season off very well, definitely deserved the All-Star nod he got. I think when you look at the rest of this season and the start of next, Esky is going to be the central figure in our front line. I'm interested to see what happens with the Qs, and Thiago, coming back into the mix next year.

we can argue about who did what and who is more important to the team or whatever, but the fact remains: WE SCORED 3 TIMES IN THE SAME GAME! who gives a f*** if esky gets player of the week over moreno, we won! be happy!

personally I prefer straws -

but seriously - how would last season have been if Esky had been healthy and this productive coupled with last year's defense and low GA avg - I think things would be quite different - then again, perhaps its also due quite a bit to the fit between Moreno and Esky - perhaps Esky & Etch or Esky & Hristo would not have been very good at all - Etch seemed to find players breaking into space around midfield (Ali and Cerritos) - Moreno finds them (Esky and Adu in the last game) around the goal area

They said last night on Fox Sports World that DC is 6-0-2 all time when Eskandarian scores. Looks like we've got a new streak to go for, since the Metrostars and Doug Warren ( ;) ) ruined Olsen's simliar, more impressive stat.

With that being said, I think Alecko is the perfect type of player for DC to have. It's likely he could become an MLS stud, but I still see him as a long shot for regular National Team minutes considering Bruce's recent fetish for only 6'1'' guys and taller on the front line. I'd be the first to argue that Alecko deserves some looks, which he may get, but I really doubt he'll be playing in enough important US games to qualify for an English work permit, and without some National Team exposure, it becomes more difficult to get exposed to other leagues in Europe.

I have been wondering about his chances at getting into a National match.

Does anyone think Gaven's call up is more appropriate than Esky? Is it because Esky has only shown his goods lately? What does everyone think of this?

It's obviously not only due to goals scored but what would/will/does hold Esky back from getting a nod?

If I'm picking a National Team right now, I'm choosing Gaven over Esky 10 times out of 10. Granted, they don't play the same position so it probably wouldn't come down to those two, but that's just the way I'd do it right now.
