View Full Version : Ken Wright is a very bad journalist.

He get's his facts wrong ...
United can control its playoff destiny to a degree by beating the Dallas Burn on Thursday in the regular season finale at RFK and hoping for outside help. If United beats the Burn, it will need the MetroStars to beat the New England Revolution on Saturday and the Columbus Crew to defeat the Chicago Fire on Sunday in order to qualify for the playoffs.
We actually need New England to beat the MetroStars.
And he's a jerk ...
Only in Major League Soccer can a team with a 1-10-3 road record remain alive for a playoff berth with one game remaining.

There's some other things too. Overall his articles read more like a post on BigSoccer.com than a journalistic piece. And while I'm happy to read posts here I expect something different from a newspaper reporter. Even one that works for the Moonies ...

There's more now that I've read Diceson's report ...
According to Wright ...
Faria took Villegas' dreadful pass into the box and from 15 yards out and finished with a side-footed shot that rolled past United goalkeeper Nick Rimando to the left post. Just like that, United found itself trailing 1-0 in a must-win match.
"[U.S. national team coach] Bruce Arena must be the greatest comedian, afterward he said, 'Well, that one was never in doubt,'" Hudson said.
Here's the full quote according to Diceson ...
Because NY is stilling chasing the playoffs, were you surprised that NY never really mounted an offense other than the gifted goal?
“It was a gift . . . You’re a dead right. Octavio has got a wobbly ship. That’s where you dig deeper. That’s where we beat them tonight we dug deeper. We wanted it more.”
“Bruce Arena has either got to be the greatest comedian or . .. he said, ‘Well, that was never in doubt.’ I thought that was beautiful. It seemed that it was on the cards that we’d come though, but god, you talk about Chinese water torture!”
So Wright has taken Hudson's quote of Arena out of context and applied it to the MetroStars' goal. The quote in this context implies that DC United played so badly that the MetroStars goal was never in doubt. In short, it's not a very complimentary thing to say about DC. In truth, however, Arena was talking about how DC United's win was inevitable. The quote, in fact, indicates a good deal of confidence in the team and is quite complimentary.
Ken Wright should be ashamed. This is totally unprofessional.
...
Here's Diceson's report, by the way ...

If he talks Tabitha Ramos out of retirement and into a United uniform, I will kick Hudson's ass.

Speaking of Ray and Tab, I did notice Ray giving Tab a round of applause when he came off.
That was class. I'm usually not a fan of Ray's tactics but you can't deny him his appreciation of the sport and its history.

I thought that a reporter in an English newspaper in the United States would have had to pass a course on English comprehension?!
Ken Wrights comments would have made more sense if they appeared in a spanish newspaper, after the reader had a six-pack of Budweiser (offical beer of MLS).
And to know that Ken Wright has an ongoing feud with Mr. Goff is even more comical right now.
Perhaps, Ken Wright did not understand the household related communication by Mr. Goff.
Someone should seriously translate his articles, Bablefish may be appropriate!
ps-Great report by Diceson!
pps-Ray was just emotionally complimenting the lad.

Anyone expecting to find something resembling journalism in the Times is going to have a fruitless search on his hands.

Come on Mike, I LIKE the Wash Times, BUT I still think Wright is an unbearable cvnt... I believe that makes me more objective in saying that he is absolute $hit as a writer! :-)
Go cover your Freedom games Ken. Your still the biggest B**** there.

Memo to Ken Wright. Montgomery Community College is starting a class in journalism next week. Enroll, it might help you get a job.

Yeah, especially when he flipped off the United staffer who was trying to get him off the field as he walked across it to go to the locker room early to pout while play was getting ready to continue at the other end.

I was referring to Ray's class. Tab's a punk-ass bitch. Maybe Leonardo did some permanent gamage way back when...

I tend to agree with Knave's interpretation of Arena's comments. But, has anyone seen Arena quoted directly, in full? That would certainly clear up the confusion.

I'd like to point out, that my eyes, which are terrible even with glasses, continues to see this thread as titled: "Ken Wright is a very bald journalist."

I always thought Ken Wright got his information from Diceson and John Haydon.

I've said for a while that this guy is crap...utter poop. But his penchant for repeatedly misquoting sources and blatantly distorting the actual statements should, on principle, get him sacked. I don't care if he is covering a sport. He is a VERY bad reporter.
What pisses me off the most about Wrong is that he is getting paid. Dyson does a volunteer job, without an editor, that is light-years ahead. Hell, a good lot of the posters on this here message board have higher journalistic standards than this hack. Even with the crap season, DC United deserves better than Ken Wrong.

I've stopped looking or reading his articles... I don't want to give him the hit counts.
I suggest others do so as well.
Times editor, "Ken, it seems your article has only gotten 3 online reads today, what gives?"
Our only recourse is to ignore him and hope he goes away. The more of us who keep clicking and reading his trash, the more his editors think he's popular.

This is horrible advice, in my opinion. The intended effect and the actual result may differ to the detriment of the coverage of soccer, in general. I think the most likely and costly result of ignoring a soccer story on the Times site will be for them to attribute that to a general lack of interest in the team and sport, not the lack of journalistic quality.
Cheers,
Tim
