Deportivo 1-3 Osasuna

A great result on the road for Osasuna. Milosevic got goals 2 and 3 after Osasuna went down to 10 men. The last one looked like a nice chip. I saw the highlights on a fuzzy web stream in Spanish, so I'm not clear on everything that happened. Looked like a ticky-tack foul that got Izquierdo his second yellow. 2 reds in 2 games is rough though. But hey, if you can produce results with 10 men, keep doing what you're doing.

Quango A great result, maybe they have another good run, with Aguirre I donot think a good cup run or UEFA spot is out of the question.

I'm hoping for a good run. The potential for a quick start is looking good.

A struggling Betis this weekend and Madrid at their worst for the mid-week, could be two solid wins in less than 5 days. That'd put Osasuna near or at the top. I think both Betis and Real will be dangerous, though, as both are desperate for something positive.

Osasuna 3-2 Betis

Amazingly, this game was on Telemundo, so I actually got to watch a Liga match. Osasuna were unlucky to have hit the bar twice, but had an Betis own goal go their way, so it evens out. Aloisi and Milosevic look really good up top, both scoring. Betis scored both goals from corners, so that's something they'll need to work on. Great start of the season, though.

Next up, an out of sorts Madrid on Wednesday. Hopefully, they'll remain out of sorts. Samuel should be out with his red card today, so hopefully Madrid will have a soft back line.

Exactly.......they fizzled at the end last year because they couldn't produce goals. Looks like they took care of that in the transfer market with Milosevic. It's still a pretty humble club, but damn if Aguirre doesn't get the best out of his players.

Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna

Didn't get to see this game and most of the news has been Madrid centered, but it doesn't sound like Osasuna played as well as they did on Saturday. I guess losing in Madrid shouldn't be that disappointing, but with all their turmoil this week, it would have been nice to get at least a point.

Next up, Sunday at home to bottom-side Getafe. Hopefully, an easy bounce back. Quango

Osasuna 2-1 Getafe
21' Moha, 44' Milosevic - 45' Pachon

Osasuna pull out a win after a disappointing loss to R. Madrid in the midweek. Aloisi distributed for both goals. Osasuna moves to fifth in the table grouped with 5 other teams 3 points behind leaders Valencia and Barca. Next Sunday, at Malaga.

Is Osasuna technically a Basque club? I thought Navarra was separate from the Basque country, but maybe I remember wrong.

This ia a thorny issue, but I'll respond.

Osasuna is not technically a Basque club, because they are not part of thr Basque Autnomous region.

However, Historically there is Large Basque presence there. The teams name is a a Basque Word. The city, Pamplona/Iruna, has substansial basque population. Ever see the Running of the Bulls? ever notice all those Basque Flags? no coincendence.

Of the regions Basques call their own, Navarra is the least Basque.

Lets just say the club has a large Basque attachment.

Thanks for clearing this up. What does Osasuna mean? Is it the Basque name for Pamplona? Quango

Malaga vs. Osasuna

Preview via soccernet.com:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/preview?id=164987&cc=5901

Go Osasuna! Should be a good match. Osasuna will have to look out for Malaga's offense which exploded for 4 goals in their last home game. Hopefully, Osasuna can keep their chemistry up top together.

OSASUNA (8) v ALBACETE (16) Sunday, Oct. 17th, 2004

Australian striker John Aloisi is injured, leaving either Pierre Webo or Valdo to partner Savo Milosevic up front for Osasuna. Albacete will be looking to gain momentum after claiming their first win of the season against Espanyol.

from soccernet:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=313228&cc=5901

Osasuna's been tough at home, so I'm predicting a 3-1 stomping of Albacete. Quango

Osasuna 3 - 2 Albacete

Osa - Francisco Punal (19)
Osa - Valmiro Valdo (40)
Osa - Moreno David Lopez (65)
Alb - Miguel Buades (42)
Alb - Pablo Redondo (50)

Osasuna pulls through at home to move to 6th in the table at 13 pts. From the match report (here):

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=166498&cc=5901

it sounded like a rough day for Sanzol in goal. The report also mentions a lot of missed chances. Osasuna will need to play a complete game next weekend to get a result at the Camp Nou vs. Barcelona. The three points today, though, are good enough to keep them near the top of the pack and in a European slot.

There is an article on Gol TV's site about Aguirre here:

http://www.goltv.tv/indexbuilder.php?target=datanoticias&sort=id&newsid=467

My Spanish is poor, so if anyone could tell me what this part says, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Quango

Barcelona 3-0 Osasuna

Osasuna struggled at the Camp Nou. Without Milosevic or a fit Aloisi, they didn't stand much of a chance. Osasuna falls to 9th, at the bottom of a six-pack of teams on 13 pts.

Next Sunday, Osasuna is back in Pamplona against the valencians, Levante. Both teams are on 13 pts, so a good chance for Osasuna to climb back into Euro spots. Osasuna is 3-1-0 at home this year, with only a tie to Bilbao. Hopefully, Milosevic will be back.
