Here's the safest possible prediction for the outcome of the 2004 Presidential Election: Whoever loses, almost exactly half of the country is going to be angry. Not disappointed or upset, but burning-up mad. They're going to deeply believe that 51% of the idiots were deceived and misled into buying an incompetent fraud, and tool of some very evil, behind-the-scenes manipulators, who will run the country into ruin.
Discuss: will they be right, or just another example of the deepening level of hostility that fractures our society in politics as in so many other ways?

One colllection of political sensibilities have been consistently demonized by right wing attack media for over 20 years. Sean Hannity even equated liberalism with terrorism. Ann Coulter has suggested executing John Walker Lindh, as it will send a clear message to liberals. The left has demonized Bush as a Hitler-wannabe. So we now have the politics of hate.
I've always thought that the dialectic process was a nice outcome of the two-party system. Both sides produce plenty of good ideas, such as environmentalism from the left and fiscal discipline from the right. This has been shut down, as of late, because of this demonization. Neither side is producing any ideas of value. We need a third (or fourth) party to bring meaningful ideas into the political debate, and some healthy outlets for all this seething anger.

I'm not even sure that cracks her top ten list of most offensive comments.

That's not a safe prediction since we can't rule out a candidate winning by a significant margin (10 points).

The funny thing is, you are right. And yet, regardless of who wins, very little of significance is going to change.

I heard this in 2000. Wronger words have never been spoken.

I can't even begin to express how angry this statment makes me feel. In the face of Bush's extreme policies, even Mel has accepted the lesser of two evils argument this year.

I could easily see Bush winning by 8-10 points without capturing Bin Laden. I also wouldn't totally rule out the possibility that Americans will come to their senses and realize that they won't win Powerball and give Kerry a big victory (unlikely, but not impossible).

Oh, I bet you could if you tried...
