I have a music CD that keeps skipping on the same track so there's clearly a scratch somewhere. I tried cleaning with a cleaning solution approved for use on discs. No luck. Now, I can't find the offending scratch anywhere on the disc, so I'm assuming it's not that big and not beyond repair.

So does anyone have a simple, non-expensive solution to my problem? Thanks in advance.

Skip Doctor! I purchased one for about $30. It works.

Warm water and hand soap. Run the warm water over the disc and apply a small amount of soap on the disc. Rub the soap from the center of the disc outwards. The soap then covers the scratch. Your cd should sound like new. I used to intern at a large radio station here in Chicago and that is what they did all the time and it always worked.

You think that's a problem, try repairing a scratchy MP3.

look on the cover of the cd (the artwork) and see if there's any scratches. thats where the emulsion is and that is a better place to look for damage than on the bottom surface of the cd

I've used silver polish and gel toothpaste to fix scratches. Can't belive gel toothpaste actually worked

See, this is the kind of stuff I come to BigSoccer for.

And thanks to everyone else who helped. I've heard the soapy water thing, but needed to confirm.
