Oct 9 against New England (Grenada/Hurricane Ivan related)

As many of you have heard, the island nation of Grenada was devastated by Hurricane Ivan over the past couple days. It's been estimated that 90% or more of the homes on the island have been destroyed or damaged.

As most of you know, the Revolution's Shalrie Joseph is a native of Grenada.

It might be nice if we as fans, or the team/United for DC, could organize something for the New England match to help with the relief effort. I'm no good at organizing such things, but I think it would be a nice gesture to our neighbors from the Carribbean.

Nah, just kidding. I think that would be a great idea. Being of Jamaican descent myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for the island nations. Unfortunately, I also suck at organizing such things. Maybe it would be something like a food/clothing drive?

If you look on page 2 of the sports page in the Washington Post you'll see a picture of their stadium which was completely demolished. :(

I'm hoping Ivan the Terrible spares Jamaica 'cause I have some friends down there. Once it's all said and done I hope somebody gets something together like when DCU played for disaster relief in El Salvador. Even if it's a soccer ball and shoes drive, I'm in.

Although a good Idea may I suggest organizing it as a direct relief assistance type thing? meaning gather goods, and funds and send it directly to the Jamaican people in the name of Barra Brava/DC United. No need to go through the hands of the New England folks.
