In the States, everyone knows how much the Red Sox and Yankees hate each other and have been rivals for 100 years.

Help a yank out. Which two teams in the EPL , in your opinion, have the best, most intense and heated rivaly?

Also, since Everton is quite honestly, the only EPL team I am familiar with except for the internationally know Man u and Arsenal of course, who are the biggest rivals of Everton?

Btw, I was pretty much a casual soccer fan unitl a few years ago, I saw an Everton game on TV. Watching the caliber of play in that game really got me juiced and I started attending Metro Stars games more and more. You brits are so freakin lucky to have the EPL. I wish MLS was half as good.

cheers

Well the above are some of the fiercest derbies in the Premier League in terms of past history and pure hatred.

IMO, though, the BoSox-Yanks rivalry is not just that the teams and fans hate each other, but also that they've been able to field some of the most talented teams to play the game of baseball.

If you factor in quality of the current teams as well as proximity and past history in the Premier League, you need to include:

Liverpool vs Man Utd
Arsenal vs Chelsea

No chance. Liverpool v Man Utd. Both clubs are bigger than either Arsenal or Spurs with massive worldwide support and Liverpool and Man Utd NEVER do business between each other (the last time was 40 years ago). Imagine if Gerrard went to OT. Sheesh, World War Three would break out.

Exactly, and that's the point. That's what makes the Liverpool v Man Utd rivalry different. It's like Real Madrid v Barcelona.

Liverpool have their own 'city' rivals in Everton but Man Utd is a more intense rivalry.

History shows that Liverpool and Man Utd are the two biggest, most successful and most famous English clubs with the most fans worldwide just as Barca and Madrid are in Spain.

Each club has a claim to being the greatest English club of all time and that's the root of it. It goes beyond petty city rivalries. There are Liverpool and Man Utd fans from all over the country (indeed the world) who detest the other. Man Utd fans detest Liverpool more than they do Man City and Leeds because Liverpool are still the most successful English club ever and this rankles with them while Liverpool fans hate the fact that Man Utd have always been the 'media darlings'.

There are more Man Utd and Liverpool fans ouside those two cities than inside them so it's not a 'city' thing any more. It's a country and worldwide thing. Even where I live (Isle Of Wight) it's all mainly Man Utd and Liverpool fans with the odd Arsenal and Chelsea fans now springing up.

What a load of old tosh! Theres loads more Pompey and Southampton fans on the Isle of Wight than all them lot put together!

Although the Island does have its fair share of armchair glory hunters - who wouldnt know a turnstile if it it run up and bit them on the arse! :)

As for rivalries - Pompey v Southampton can be pretty intense.

I got off the train at Fratton and the place looked like a warzone with riot police battling with about a thousand stone and bottle throwing Portsmouth hoolies waiting for the Southampton train to arrive. There was what they call `serious public disorder` all day.

Fifty-four people are now in prison after that days events with another twenty-six cases appearing next week.

Aston Villa/Birmingham and Chelsea/Tottenham can be a bit moody aswell!

Well I don't know about the head count but I'm going on shirts I see both kids and adults wearing. It seems 50/50 Man Utd and Liverpool.

Baron mate, Liverpool v Man U is not a `derby` it`s a rivalry.

You`ve got the Mersyside derby - Liverpool v Everton

The Manchester derby - City v Utd

The North London derby - Spurs and the Arse

The North East derby - Sunderland v Newcastle

The Midlands derby - Villa v Birmingham

and, of course the Southcoast derby - Pompey v scumhampton

Theres loads more.

United v Liverpool is a derby in a way. the cities are very close by.

Why is an Irishman supporting the Arsebandits anyway? United have always had the Ireland connection, originally in support and in modern times with players like Keano, O'Shea, Miller.

Who've Arsenal got? Thierry Henry? Jose Reyes??
